Using the compact charger
Note
On some vehicles you need to switch on the ignition to complete
the electricity circuit so that the compact charger can charge the
battery.
➤ Charge the battery as described in the "Charging a battery" chapter on
page 28.
6.2
Using cable lugs
The two cable lugs are marked:
Red cable lug: is to be connected to the positive terminal of the battery.
Black cable lug: is to be connected to the negative terminal of the battery.
➤ Remove the nuts from the bolts of the two battery terminals.
➤ Plug the red cable lug onto the bolt of the positive terminal.
➤ Plug the black cable lug onto the bolt of the negative terminal.
➤ Replace the nuts on the bolts of the two battery terminals.
➤ Place the safety caps on the cable lugs before you connect the cables
with the compact charger.
➤ Connect the cable to the cable lugs (fig. 1 4, page 3) using the adapter
plug (fig. 1 3, page 3) of the compact charger.
➤ Charge the battery as described in the "Charging a battery" chapter on
page 28.
6.3
Using terminals
Connecting the battery without removing it from its installation site
➤ Determine which battery connection is connected to the chassis.
Caution!
Do not connect the terminals of the compact charger to the starter,
the petrol supply lines or to the metal cladding.
➤ If the negative terminal is connected to the chassis (standard on most
vehicles), connect the terminals as follows:
