6. Getting started
6.1 Insert battery
• Open the battery compartment of the basic unit and the transmitter
(screwed) and place both instruments on a desk with a distance of approxi-
mately 1.5 meter. Check that no other electronic devices are close.
• Remove the insulation strip.
• All LCD segments will light up for about 2 seconds.
• Close the battery compartment again.
6.2 Radio-controlled time reception:
• After the initial setup, the clock is trying to receive the radio signal for 3-
5 minutes. When the time code is received, the DCF symbol appears and
the radio-controlled time will be displayed.
• If the time reception was not successful, ▲ appears on the display.
Remove the batteries and reinsert them after 1 min. for retry. In case the
clock cannot detect the DCF-signal (for example due to disturbances,
transmitting distance, etc.), the time can be set manually. The clock will
then work as a normal quartz clock.
• The time base for the radio-controlled time is a Caesium Atomic Clock
operated by the Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt Braunschweig
which has a time deviation of less than one second in one million years.
The time is coded and transmitted from Mainflingen near Frankfurt via
frequency signal DCF-77 (77.5 kHz) and has a transmitting range of
approximately 1,500 km. Your radio-controlled clock receives this signal
and converts it to show the precise time in summer or wintertime. The
quality of the reception depends greatly on the geographic location. In
normal cases, there should be no reception problems within a 1,500 km
radius around Frankfurt.
Please take note of the following:
• Recommended distance to any interfering sources like computer moni-
tors or TV sets is a minimum of 1.5 - 2 metres.
• Within ferro-concrete rooms (basements, superstructures), the received sig-
nal is naturally weakened. In extreme cases, please place the unit close to a
window and/or point its front or back towards the Frankfurt transmitter.
• During night-time, the atmospheric disturbances are usually less severe
and reception is possible in most cases. A single daily reception is ade-
quate to keep the accuracy deviation below 1 second.
6.3 Reception of outdoor values
• The basic unit automatically starts scanning the 433MHz signal to regis-
ter the transmitter after batteries are inserted. If the reception of out-
door temperature fails, "- -" appears on the display. Check the batteries
and try it again. Check if there is any source of interference. Manual ini-
tialization by pressing the ▼ button for 2 seconds can be helpful.
• The wave display shows the signal receiving status of the main unit:

7. How to operate
7.1 Settings
• The time can be set manually in case the clock cannot detect the DCF-sig-
nal. Hold "MODE" button for 2 seconds. The year indicator is flashing.
Press ▲ or ▼ button to adjust the year. Confirm with MODE button.
• Set Month, Day, Date (Day/Month (D/M) or Month/Day (M/D), 12/24 hour
system, Hours, Minutes, Day-of-week language, Time zone, Temperature
unit °C or °F.
Day-of-week language:
• German (DE), French (Fr), Italian (IT), Spanish (SP), Swedish (SW), Dutch
(Du) and English (En). Confirm with MODE button.
Time zone setting:
• The time zone is used for the countries where the DCF signal can be
received but the time zone is different from the German time (e.g. +
1=one hour later). Adjust the time zone in intervals of 30 minutes.
7.2 Alarm Clock Function
• Select your desired alarm time by the ALARM ON/OFF button:
1. W =
Weekday Alarm (only on weekdays)
2. S =
Single Alarm (once)
3. PRE-AL = will be activated if outdoor temperature
is under or equal zero degree
• Set the alarm time in the desired alarm mode. Hold ALARM ON/OFF but-
ton for 2 seconds. The hour digits are flashing. Press ▲ or ▼ button to
adjust the time. Confirm with ALARM ON/OFF button. Set minutes in the
same way. In PRE-ALM mode you can choose to be awaken 15, 30, 45, 60
or 90 minutes earlier.
• To deactivate the respective alarm function press ▼ button. OFF appears
on the display. To activate press ▲ button. The corresponding icon
appears or disappears on the display.
• Once the alarm starts to ring, you can activate the snooze function by press-
ing the top button SNOOZE. The alarm will be interrupted for 8 minutes.
• If you leave the alarm sound on for 2 minutes, it will repeat it automa-
tically with maximum 3 times.
7.3 Display of date
Each press on the MODE button will change the display between:
• Clock with hour, minutes and seconds
