Installing the batteries
Slide off the back cover of the VPT-1 to open the battery
compartment. Making sure to observe the correct polarity, insert
the batteries, and then slide the back cover to close the battery
compartment.
If the VPT-1 malfunctions and you are unable to correct
the problem by turning the power off and on several times,
remove the batteries and then reinstall them.
If the power is left on for approximately three minutes without
any sound being input, the VPT-1 will turn off automatically.
When the batteries run low, the battery icon is lit. Replace the
batteries as soon as possible.
Tuner mode

Using the tuner
1. Hold the VPT-1 in your hand
as shown in the illustration, and
vocalize into the built-in mic.
Try singing in a loud voice.
2. The note name that is closest to the
pitch of the vocal input is displayed
along with a note on the five-line
staff, and the tuning guide LED is
lit. If the pitch is low, the lower red

LED (
) is lit; if the pitch is high, the
upper red LED (#) is lit.
3. Control your voice so that only the center blue LED is lit.

Tuning level (difficulty) setting
Each time you press the LEVEL button, the difficulty level cycles
through the three steps of EASY/MEDIUM/HARD. Start with
EASY, and when the tuning guide LED remains lit blue fairly
consistently, try raising the level.

Octave shift setting
When tuning in a high register or low register, you can use the
octave shift setting to keep the note display within the five-line
staff.
1. Long-press the LEVEL button to access the octave shift setting.
2. Each time you press the LEVEL button, the display range
switches between normal (8va and 8vb both blinking), one
octave up (8ve blinking), and one octave down (8vb blinking).

Select the setting that's appropriate for your vocal range. The
new setting is completed approximately two seconds after you
press the button.
Tip: When octave shift is applied, the sound back range is
likewise shifted.

Sound back function
When using the sound back function, a reference tone that
is closest to the pitch of the vocal input is output from your
headphones.
1. Connect headphones, and long-press the SOUND button.
2. The display indicates "SOUND BACK, " and the sound back
function turns on.
3. Use the reference tone together with the tuning guide LEDs as
you practice.
4. When you long-press the SOUND button again, the "SOUND
BACK" indication disappears, and the sound back function
turns off.
The sound back function cannot be used if headphones are not
connected.
In some cases, this might detect the pitch of a non-vocal
sound that enters the built-in mic. If you're not using the
sound back function, either disconnect the headphones or
turn off the sound back function.
When you turn off the power, the sound back function also
turns off.
Sound out mode
When you press the SOUND button, a reference tone of the
specified note name is output from the built-in speaker or from
headphones. Each time you press the NOTE button, the reference
tone rises one semitone in pitch.
Tip: You can quickly change the reference tone by long-press-
ing the NOTE button.
Tip: After using the NOTE button to specify the reference tone,
you can output just the desired reference tone by pressing
the SOUND button.

Volume setting
When sound out mode is operating, press the LEVEL button
repeatedly to switch the reference tone volume through the three
volume levels of
(low),
setting also applies to the sound back function.

The tuner mode and sound out mode settings are remembered
even when the VPT-1 is turned off. However, the settings will
be reset to the factory defaults when the batteries are replaced.
