Setting of Dolby 5.1ch

Adjusting the speaker levels

The test tones help to make the volume adjustments of the different
speakers. When levels are equal, a strong sense of presence can be
heard from the different speakers at the listening position.
• Avoid stopping, pausing, switching the disc, cueing, fast-
forwarding or switching the audio channel of this unit while
making this adjustment. The setting is cancelled if the decode mode
is switched.
1
Check that Defeat mode is off (page 17).
2
Press and hold CENTER f. for at least 2 seconds.
The audio processor control mode is activated.
3
Select the 5.1CH SETUP mode by pressing
CENTER f. repeatedly.
4
Select OUTPUT LEVEL by pressing g or f.
5
Press the Rotary encoder to select the speaker
to be adjusted.
The test tone is produced by the selected speaker.
6
Adjust the output level by turning and then
pressing the Rotary encoder.
7
Adjust each volume level for optimum balance by
repeating steps 5 and 6.
• The adjustment range for the different speakers is –10 dB - +10
dB.
• Adjust based on the front speakers.
8
When the setting is complete, press and hold
CENTER f. for at least 2 seconds.
The unit returns to the normal mode.
Press CENTER f. to select another item to be set.
• If a speaker is set to off mode, that speaker's level adjustment
cannot be made. Refer to "Speaker Setup" (page 34).
• When the setting is complete, it is recommended to store the setting
contents. For storing, refer to page 37.

Mixing bass sound to the rear channel

This function mixes the front channel audio signals to the audio
signals output from the rear speakers, improving the sound in the
vehicle's rear seat.
• Avoid stopping, pausing, switching the disc, cueing, fast-
forwarding or switching the audio channel of this unit while
making this adjustment. The setting is cancelled if the Decode
mode is switched.
1
Check that Defeat mode is off (page 17).
2
Press and hold CENTER f. for at least 2 seconds.
The audio processor control mode is activated.
3
Select the 5.1CH SETUP mode by pressing
CENTER f. repeatedly.
4
Select REAR MIX by pressing g or f.
5
Select REAR MIX ON/OFF by turning and then
pressing the Rotary encoder.
If ON is set, the audio signal which is output from the rear
speaker is mixed to the front audio signal.
6
Adjust the level (LEVEL) by turning and then
pressing the Rotary encoder.
The level can adjusted in five steps: –6, –3, 0, +3 and +6. The
higher the level, the more bass is output from the rear
speakers. (The effect differs according to the software (DVD,
etc.).)
7
When the setting is complete, press and hold
CENTER f. for at least 2 seconds.
The unit returns to the normal mode.
Press CENTER f. to select another item to be set.
• This adjustment is ineffective when the rear speaker setup setting is
set to "OFF."
• For linear PCM signals, the voice is output from the rear speaker
regardless of the REAR FILL and REAR MIX setting.
• When the setting is complete, it is recommended to store the setting
contents. For storing, refer to page 37.

Adjusting the acoustic image

In most installations, the centre speaker must be placed directly
between the front passenger and driver. Using this function, the centre
channel information is distributed to the left and right speakers. This
creates an acoustic image simulating a centre speaker directly in front
of each listener. Adjusting the centre width in PL II MUSIC (see
"Using the Pro Logic II Mode," page 36), makes this function
ineffective.
• Avoid stopping, pausing, switching the disc, cueing, fast-forwarding
or switching the audio channel of this unit while making this
adjustment. The setting is cancelled if the Decode mode is switched.
1
Check that Defeat mode is off (page 17).
2
Press and hold CENTER f. for at least 2 seconds.
The audio processor control mode is activated.
3
Select the 5.1CH SETUP mode by pressing
CENTER f. repeatedly.
4
Select BI-PHANTOM by pressing g or f.
5
Select BI-PHANTOM ON/OFF by turning and then
pressing the Rotary encoder.
If ON is set, the soundstage created is as if you are
positioned directly in front of the centre speaker by
distributing the centre speaker sound left and right.
