Safeguards and Precautions
!
1. Read and follow all instructions
in this manual carefully, and retain
this manual for future reference.
2. Do not use this instrument in
any manner inconsistent with these
operating instructions or under any
conditions that exceed the environ-
mental specifications stated.
3. Be sure the power supplied to
this instrument matches the specifi-
cations indicated on the front panel
of the control box and described in
Specifications section.
4. If the LevMixer
®
transported or stored in colder
temperatures than the operating
environment it is necessary to wait
1-2 hours to equalize the internal
temperatures of the drive unit
before turning it on.
5. Be sure all power is disconnected
before opening, assembling or
disassembling the LevMixer
unit or its control box.
6. For full compliance with CE
specifications, be sure the appropri-
ate ground connection is made.
7. For technical assistance
contact the sales organization
from Sartorius Stedim Biotech
8. Each Flexel
®
Bag for LevMixer
contains a magnetic impeller, which
is the source of a strong magnetic
field in close vicinity (12 inches)
of the impeller.
People using any electronic medical
devices, such as pacemakers, should
not be involved in the close han-
dling of Flexel
®
Bags for LevMixer
magnetic chargers, impellers or test
impellers.
9. Keep supplied magnetic shields
on bags, magnetic chargers and
impellers when not in use.
Do not open machine or control
box while the LevMixer
is plugged in.
Do not submerge LevMixer
unit in water.
Do not cut ground plug.

Portable Appliance Test (PAT) -
U.K. Procedure
Insulation Resistance Test
Background
For U.K. users of the Flexel
who wish to perform the PAT Test, please
consider the following:
Flexel
®
for LevMixer
The electronics of the DB-200 LevMixer
drive unit contain a surge suppression board
to protect the main controller from damag-
drive unit
1
is
ing electrical surges on the AC main line per
CE requirements. The electrical components
of the surge suppression board are Metal
Oxide Varisters (MOV). MOVs provide surge
suppression to the electronics by shorting
high voltage transients to ground.
PAT Test
During the Insulation Resistance Test in
PAT, the testers short together live and neu-
®
drive
tral conductors and apply 500VDC between
these conductors and earth. As a result of
the surge protection board, "low" readings
will result as the MOVs short high voltage to
ground. This is normal characteristic of the
electronics. To properly conduct the PAT
test, it is necessary and proper to bypass the
surge suppression circuit.

Representative for Northern Europe for

the proper Insulation Resistance Test
procedure that can determine if a fault
exists.
