REPLACING FILTERS

The following conditions indicate that the cartridges have served their useful life and must be
replaced.
CHEMICAL CARTRIDGES
- Odor or taste of gases or vapors; nose or throat irritation.
MECHANICAL FILTERS:
- Excessive breathing resistance when inhaling.
COMBINATION FILTERS:
- Either of the above conditions. Brown color on end-of-service-life indicator (Mersorb and Mersorb
P3 cartridges only)
To replace cartridges:
A.
Remove the expended cartridges and dispose them properly.
B.
Remove the replacement cartridges from their storage bags.
C.
Place cartridge carefully, following the proper procedure for each type of filter.
Obs: For bayonet-type chemical filters, place cartridges carefully. Line up match-mark on cartridge
with small lug on facepiece connector. Make sure cartridge connector lugs align with the
cartridge opening. Push down the cartridge and tight it clockwise until stops are engaged. To
ensure a good seal against the facepiece tighten each cartridge as strong as possible around
the cartridge circumference and then turn cartridge slowly until tight.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION

Facepiece (with removed filters) must be cleaned and disinfected after each use with MSA Cleaner-
Sanitizer, P/N 34337, or plain warm water (approx. 50ºC) and mild soap.
1. Form a solution with the package contends added into water, following instructions on MSA
Cleaner-Sanitizer package.
2. Submerge dirty device into solution and carefully scrub with a soft brush until clean. Take care
when cleaning the exhalation valve on the piece and any other piece in contact with exhaled air.
