English
protect.Epi
Intended purpose
protect.Epi is an elbow support. The
product is exclusively to be used for
the orthotic fitting of the elbow and
only on unbroken skin or if any
wounds have been properly
covered.
Indications
All indications in whichsoft tissue
compression with profile pads at
the elbow is necessary, such as:
• Lateral epicondylitis or medial
epicondylitis
• Joint effusion and swelling
• Inflammation (chronic, post-trau-
matic, postoperative)
• Osteoarthritis and arthritis
Contraindications
No general side effects are known.
However, if supports (or similar aids)
are too tight, local pressure effects
or constriction of blood vessels or
nerves may occur in individuals. If
you have any of the following
complaints please consult your
doctor before using the brace:
• Disease or injury to the skin in the
area that the brace is used on,
particularly when signs of
infection (excessive heat, swelling
or redness) are apparent.
• Paraesthesia and circulatory
disorders in the arm (e.g. as seen
in diabetes)
• Lymph flow disorders – equally,
swelling of soft tissue which is
adjacent to the area of application
and is not related to a condition.
Mechanism of action
Together with the pad, the knitted
fabric has a massaging effect,
improves perfusion and reduces
effusion and swelling. This
combination of massage and
stabilisation supports joint
function, enhances joint mobility
and alleviates pain.
Note on wearing
Supports have the greatest effect
during physical activity. In principle,
the support can be worn through-
out the day. During long periods of
rest (e.g. sleeping), the support
should be removed.
Instructions for fitting
• Grasp the upper end of the
support and pull this over the
elbow till the crook of the arm is in
the middle of the support (Fig.
1+2).
• The support is sitting properly
when the internal and external
bony prominences (epidondyles)
are readily palpable through the
gaps in the pads (Fig. 3).
• The strap enables the pressure to
be regulated for each individual,
depending on what their body
requires (tightening, loosening). If
required, the strap can also easily
be removed whilst the device is
being worn (Fig. 4).
Please note that the support should
be fitted for the first time as
instructed by trained specialists.
