Overload Protection
In order to protect the operator, the motor and the drill bit, the machine is equipped with a mechanical,
electronic and thermal overload protection.
Mechanical protection: When the drill bit is suddenly jammed, the drilling spindle is disengaged from the
Electronic protection: If the feed force is too powerful and causes overload, the power supply is
Thermal protection:
The stop of the machine caused by overload protection is not a defect!
After adequate waiting time, it is possible to start working again!
Care and Maintenance
WARNING:
Always make sure that the switch is in its OFF position and the power plug is removed from the socket
before carrying out any work on the tool.
In order to guarantee product safety and reliability, repairs, maintenance and adjustments shall be
carried out by a Makita Service Station.
The power tool is designed in a way that it requires only a minimum of care and maintenance.
The following work shall be carried out and/or the following parts shall be inspected regularly:
• Do always keep the power tool and the ventilation slots clean.
• Make sure that no foreign objects get into the power tool.
• Replace the carbon brushes on time: If the carbon brushes are used until their wear limit (5 mm) is
reached, they shall only be replaced in pairs by an expert. After having replaced the carbon brushes,
let the machine idle approx. 20 minutes in order to run the brushes.
• It is necessary to clean the gearbox and the motor after having replaced the carbon brushes.
Since a general inspection of all parts is required at that time, the machine shall be send to a
Makita Service Station.
Information on noise and vibration
Measured values determined according to EN 60745
The A-weighted noise level of the tool is typically:
Sound pressure level (L
Sound power level (L
Uncertainty K=3 dB.
Wear ear protection!
Hand-arm vibration:
Hand-arm vibration is typically lower than 2.5 m/s².
Measured values determined according to EN 60745
The vibration emission level indicated in these instructions has been measured in accordance with a
standardised test method given in EN 60745 and can be used to compare one tool with another. It is
also suitable for a preliminary evaluation of the vibration emission level.
motor with an overload slipping clutch.
switched off by the electronic system. After the system is unloaded and switched
on again, you can carry out your work.
The motor is protected from damages due to continuous overload with the help of
a thermal element. In this case, the machine switches off independently and can
only be restarted after it has cooled down (max. 2 min). The cooling period
depends on the heating of the motor winding and the ambient temperature. In
order to accelerate the cooling, let the machine operate without load for 1 to 2
minutes after the restart.
