3 Battery replacement

3 .1 General guidelines

DANGER
• Only persons who have sufficient familiarity
with batteries and with the required
precautionary measures may replace batteries
and supervise operations.
• Remove conductive items such as chains, wrist
watches, rings, or other metal objects. High
power through conductive materials can cause
severe burns.
• Use tools with insulated handles.
• Wear rubber gloves and boots.
• Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of
batteries.
• Disconnect charging source prior to
connecting or disconnecting battery terminals.
• Determine if battery is inadvertently grounded.
If inadvertently grounded, remove source from
ground. Contact with any part of a grounded
battery can result in electrical shock. The

3 .2 Procedure

The UPS has 1 or 2 battery blocks according to the
model. The batteries are not hot-swappable; do
NOT remove the batteries if the UPS is on.
Switch off the UPS and disconnect the input and
output power cords from the wall outlet before
replacing the batteries.
A BATTERY CAN PRESENT A RISK OF
ELECTRICAL SHOCK AND HIGH SHORT-
CIRCUIT CURRENT .
THE FOLLOWING PRECAUTIONS SHOULD
BE OBSERVED WHEN WORKING ON
BATTERIES .
likelihood of such shock can be reduced if such
grounds are removed during installation and
maintenance.
• When replacing the batteries, use only the
same type and size battery. (Refer to the
product specifications).
• Never short the battery terminals. Shorting
may cause the battery to burn.
• Avoid charging in a sealed container.
• Proper disposal of batteries is required: refer
to your local regulations for disposal
requirements.
• Never dispose of batteries in a fire: they may
explode.
• Never disassemble or
reassemble batteries;
their contents
(electrolyte) may be
extremely toxic. If
exposed to electrolyte,
wash immediately
with plenty of water, if
eye contact occurs
flush with water and
contact a doctor.
CONSIDER ALL WARNINGS, CAUTIONS,
AND NOTES BEFORE REPLACING
BATTERIES .
UPON BATTERY DISCONNECTION, THE
