For optimal control of the LATICRETE
can use a floor-sensing programmable thermostat such as the
LATICRTE Floor Warming Thermostat. The temperature sensing is
accomplished by placing a sensor in the heated area under the flooring
surface. This versatile unit can be programmed to operate at varying
temperatures for different time periods on a daily basis. LATICRETE Floor
Warming Thermostat is equipped with an internal GFCI, available in both
5mA and 15mA. LATICRETE Floor HEAT can be regulated by any one of the
following: an on/off switch, a programmable timer, or a manual floor-sensing
thermostat. Please contact the LATICRETE Technical Services Department at
1.800.243.4788 ext. 235 for further details.

All electrical connections for LATICRETE Floor HEAT products and
controls should be done by a professional electrician in accordance with all
local and national electrical codes.

1. A deep, 2-1/8" x 4" (53 mm x 100 mm) single-gang junction box (or
®
a 4" x 4" [100 mm x 100 mm] double-gang box with a mud plate) should
be provided by the electrician for the thermostat connections.
2. Two conduits should be placed from the junction box to the bottom of the
rough-in wall.

LATICRETE Floor Warming Thermostat floor sensor should be installed after
the LATICRETE Floor HEAT mat has been secured to the underlayment,
but BEFORE it is covered with any mortar or self leveling underlayments.
Make sure to place the sensor between the heating element wires without
crossing or touching any of the element wires as described in the "Step-By-
Step Installation Procedures" of this manual.

The supply leads extend approximately 12' – 13' (360 cm – 390 cm) from
3/4"
the LATICRETE Floor HEAT mat. Since the supply lead(s) cannot be spliced
(19 mm)

in the floor, the LATICRETE Floor HEAT mat should be laid in a pattern that
for Supply
Leads
allows the supply lead(s) to run directly to the junction box without crossing
or touching any element wires. However, if the supply lead(s) need to be
extended, an additional accessible junction box should be set just above floor
level. The gauge of the extension wire(s) used should be determined by
the electrician to accommodate the amperage of the LATICRETE Floor HEAT
mat(s) being installed.
nOTE: inaccessible extensions or splices are not permitted.

If the project requires more than one (1) LATICRETE Floor HEAT
mat to be connected to the same control, the supply leads from the
LATICRETE Floor HEAT mats should be connected in parallel (not in series)
through an additional junction box and extended through the conduit to the
thermostat junction box. The gauge of the extension wires used should be
determined by the electrician to accommodate the amperage of the mats
being installed. (See Section labeled "Use of a Contactor and Separate GFCI"
for further details.)

A. The first conduit, intended for the supply leads from the mat(s), should
be 3/4" (19 mm) and must be installed from the junction box down
to floor level. A plastic bushing should be used where the supply leads
enter the conduit to protect the wires.
B. The second conduit, intended for the LATICRETE Floor Warming
Thermostat floor sensor, can be a 1/2" (12 mm) conduit. This
1/2" (12 mm) conduit should be installed from the junction box
down to floor level. The sensor wire should not be placed in the
same conduit as the supply leads.
All electrical connections must be made by a licensed electrician and
comply with all applicable building and electrical codes. Failure to do so
voids all warranties and claims.
