TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Risk of sudden starts and electrical shock.
Unplug pump from power receptacle before working on pump.
SYMPTOM
Motor will not start or run.
Motor runs but pump
will not pump.
Pump starts and stops
too often.
Pump is noisy.
Pump will not stop
running.
PROBABLE CAUSE(S)
No electrical power
Low line voltage
Faulty automatic switch
Float or float rod stuck
Waterlogged float
Motor overload tripped
Electrical malfunction
Inlet clogged
Discharge line plugged
Low line voltage
Improper positioning of
float rod stop
Faulty automatic switch
Improper installation
Noisy motor
Debris around float or
float rod stuck
Faulty automatic switch
Motor defective
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Check the fuse, circuit breaker, power cord and electrical outlet.
If the voltage is under the recommended minimum, check the size of the wiring
from main source. If OK, contact Electric Company or local Hydro authority.
Operate the switch manually and replace if inoperative.
Check to see that the float is not rubbing on the sump wall or the float rod
is stuck against the sump cover.
Replace the float if filled with water.
If the pump has been running and stops before the sump is emptied, the
automatic overload may have tripped. Check the inlet screen to be sure the
impeller is not jammed. If so, free the impeller of the obstruction.
Check the power cord, automatic switch and motor. Replace faulty parts
as needed.
Check the inlet and clean if needed.
Clear the discharge line and check valve of any obstruction.
Refer to Corrective Action on low line voltage in the above section.
Lower the float rod stop.
Replace the automatic switch.
Refer to No. 5 in Installation Instructions.
Replace the pump.
Remove debris from the sump. Check to see the float is not rubbing the sump
wall or stuck against the sump cover.
Replace the switch.
Replace the pump.
