– Use the hooter to signal the beginning of each manoeuvre with the tractor.
– The introduction of material must always be carried out when the mixer is rotating.
– The loading sequence depends entirely on the final product desired. Normally the flours are loaded first and then
the dried or long materials such as hay and straw (see guidelines for the proper use of the mixer wagon).
– Let the machine work with the cardan shaft rotating at at least 500 RPM until the long fibre has been partly cut.
– Complete mixing with the cardan shaft rotating at 400-500 RPM.
Note: Before starting up the working process make sure that the hydraulic oil is up to its working temperature of
30°C. If the hydraulic oil fails to reach this temperature even when working, replace with a lower viscosity
oil (see table on page 105).
GUIDELINES FOR PROPER USE OF THE MIXER WAGON
Obtaining good rations depends on a large number of factors, including the quality of the product, a good choice
of wagon, a good operator and the level of care taken in the various stages of the work. It is practically impossi-
ble to set down a procedure which should be followed to the letter which will give optimal results in all circum-
stances.
The same kind of raw materials stored or produced in different geographical areas and in a different way may be
so different in their characteristics that they have to be treated quite differently when it comes to using them. We
feel therefore that it is right to set forth our considerations on the various work stages and the behaviour of cer-
tain products once they have been put into the mixer, rather than laying down a series of procedures which have
to be carried out.
Given that the directions below have produced good results in most cases, we feel we should highlight certain
factors which could jeopardise the resulting final product:
– Poor quality raw materials due to poor harvesting or storage.
– Inefficient machine operation due to poor maintenance
– Lack of care or incompetence on the part of the user
ThecCutter-mixer wagon is only an equipment and so the operator must always be aware of the desired result
to be obtained and use the machine efficiently with due regard to the particular nature of the various materials
being used.
It follows that the advice given below is above all intended as a good starting point and general guideline from
which it may be necessary to deviate as circumstances demand.
G
ENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
It is not advisable to introduce the whole round bale into the cutter-mixer wagons, especially if it is from a baler
with a hard centre device, and this for the following reasons:
– It is not possible to check the inside for mould, earth or foreign bodies
– It is not always possible to make the round bale weight correspond with that of the recipe
– The whole round bale, especially if a wrapped type, creates greater forces on the moving parts.
W
ORK PHASES
1) Use a loader or other suitable tool to load the fibrous material (straw, hay...) into the machine. Then let the
machine work until the product has been partially chopped up.
2) Now add supplementary products (flours) and, at the end, the chopped product. Let the screw turn for seve-
ral minutes to terminate mixing.
