Assembly

Testing the cellular network

There must be cellular reception at the planned location so
that the transmitter can transfer the measured values. You
can test the reception using the (switched on) transmitter.
The status LED displays the signal strength.
The transmitter transmits measured values once per hour re-
gardless of whether measured values are already present for
the soil. The signal strength cannot be tested during this pro-
cess. This status is shown by a continuous blue light on the
status LED when the signal strength is being tested.
 Briefly hold the magnet against the recess in the transmit-
ter casing.
The status LED can then display the following statuses:
LED
Meaning
Blue, continuous Measured values are being transferred.
Wait 5 minutes before trying again.
Blue, flashing
The signal strength is being tested (max.
5 minutes).
Green
Strong signal
Yellow
Adequate signal
Red
Insufficient signal
If the signal strength is too weak, you must retest the signal
strength in a different location. The new location must be at
least 50 m from the original position.
Inserting the sensor rod into the soil
The sensor rod must be completely inserted into the soil. It
must sit alongside the asparagus plants in the middle of the
bank.
 With the tip pointing downward, press the sensor rod into
the soil by hand.
NOTE
 Risk of damage!
Impacts may damage or destroy the sensor rod. Do
not use a hammer or any other tool to move the sensor
rod into the soil or to pack the soil.

Assembling the transmitter

Positioning specifications for the transmitter (see figure 4,
page 3):
– Above the crest of the bank
– Not covered by agricultural film
– Good position for transmission and reception
– Protected against damage, such as from tools or agricul-
tural machinery
– Socket facing downward
The transmitter has 3 eyes that can be used to attach it to the
transmitter bracket (see figure 3 on page 3).
 Take the protective cap off the transmitter bracket and
push the bracket into the ground.
Bosch Software Innovations GmbH, Deepfield Connect
 Open the clamp, pull the transmitter bracket out and close
the clamp again.
 Use the eye at the top to hang the transmitter on the trans-
mitter bracket and push the Sicherungs cap onto the end
of the bracket.
 Thread a cable tie through the eye at the bottom and
around the transmitter bracket.
NOTE
 Risk of damage!
Impacts on the transmitter bracket could damage the
transmitter irreparably. Remove the transmitter brack-
et extension upwards when pushing the transmitter into
the ground using the tool.
Connecting the sensor rod to the transmitter
The sensor rod is connected to the transmitter via a 12-pole
plug connection. The plug connection is prevented from twist-
ing by a keyway and can therefore only be connected in the
correct position.
Lay the cable so that it is protected against mechanical dam-
age, such as from tools or agricultural machinery.
 Insert the plug connection into the socket and tighten the
union nut by hand in a clockwise direction.

Operation

Operation in the field solely requires the preparations speci-
fied under "Commissioning" and "Assembly".
The monitoring station will then work automatically and with-
out requiring maintenance.
The state of charge of the battery is monitored by Deepfield
Connect via the radio link. You will be notified when the bat-
tery needs replacing.

Replacing the battery

Also see figure 2, page 2.
NOTE
 Risk of damage!
Penetrating water or chemicals may damage or de-
stroy the monitoring station. Only replace the battery
in a dry environment. Clean the monitoring station dry
before replacing the battery. If dirty, clean the battery
compartment seal and check it for damage.
 Remove the cable tie and turn the transmitter on its side
by the top suspension.
 Open the battery compartment.
 Remove the battery and release the connector. To release
the connector, press down on the back of the hook.
 Insert the connector for the new battery into the socket.
 Place the battery and the cable in the transmitter. The
cable should be underneath the battery if possible (see
figure 2, page 2).
