Maintenance
The JTV valve has a threaded bonnet, which makes
the valve easy to disassemble and maintain. You
can service the valve without removing it from the
circuit.
NOTE: During winter shutdown, drain the system
to protect JTV valves from freezing. Failure
to properly drain lines may damage the
valves. Be sure you comply with all local
guidelines.
Disassemble Valve
1. Shut off the water supply. Then bleed pressure
from the valve by turning the bleed screw
counterclockwise.
2. Unscrew the bonnet by hand (turn counter-
clockwise).
3. Remove the spring and diaphragm.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Solution
Valve won't shut off completely. Tighten the solenoid completely (
solenoid handle, which is specifically designed to shut the valve off
Sprinklers "weep." completely and keep it from "weeping". Also tighten the bleed screw
and bonnet.
Use the external bleed screw to flush the valve. If performance does
not improve, turn off the water. Unscrew the bonnet and remove it
from the valve. Remove the diaphragm (see Illustration 12), and
clean it in clear water. Reinstall the diaphragm and bonnet. If
necessary, replace the diaphragm with kit number 231771.
Valve won't open. Check the water source and controller power.
Turn off the water. Remove the bonnet. Inspect the body for debris. If
the filter is missing from the diaphragm, replace the diaphragm with
kit number 231771.
Turn off the water. Remove the solenoid and replace it with a known
working solenoid. If the valve still won't open, replace the solenoid.
Valve slams on/off (water hammer).
Check system water pressure. If pressure is greater than 80 psi
(5.5 Bars), install a pressure regulator on the line before the valve to
reduce water pressure.

Reassemble Valve
1. Insert the diaphragm into the valve body. Make
sure the sealing beads are seated in the
grooves inside the valve body.
2. Place the spring on the post in the center of the
diaphragm.
3. Turn the bonnet clockwise to screw it onto the
valve body. Firmly hand-tighten the bonnet.
