To install the grass catcher, lift up the discharge chute
deflector (item 7) with one hand - with the other hand,
hold the grass catcher bag (item 6) on the frame bar and
hook at an angle from above into the chassis fitting.
Please note: The discharge chute deflector
(item 7) is designed for your personal safety.
The deflector must be permanently closed when using the
lawnmower without grass catcher (item 6).
Adjusting the cutting height
Your lawnmower is equipped with a variable wheel
adjuster ranging from 30 – 80 mm. The wheel adjuster
acts on all wheels via a central adjusting mechanism (item
13). Rotating the adjuster clockwise reduces the cutting
height, turning anti-clockwise increases the cutting
height. The cutting height can be checked on the scale
adjacent to the central wheel adjuster (Fig. 16).
Engine
Before starting the engine for the first time,
thoroughly read the engine operating
instructions supplied and the following
instructions. Only by observing these operating
instructions can the long service life of the
engine and your warranty be assured.
Self-drive with variable speed selection
(type 550-RS/550-HR)
Your SOLO lawnmower 550-RS/550-HR is equipped with a
variable speed self-drive mechanism. The drive is provided
by belt via a gearbox with variable speed driving the rear
wheels.
The variable driving speed can be selected as required
using the control lever (item 4).
Position 1
= approx. 2.6 km/h
Position 3
= approx. 4.8 km/h
Note: Only change the driving speed via the
control lever (item 4) with the engine running.
In use, the driving speed can be changed at random with
the drive engaged (item 4).
Self-drive with single speed drive (type 550-R)
On lawnmowers with self-drive,
control lever (B) is positioned in
front of the handle. Only engage
the drive mechanism with the
engine running. To engage the
self-drive mechanism, pull the
control bar (B) towards the handle. Release the control
bar to disengage the self-drive. With the control bar
released, there is no drive and the lawnmower can be
pushed forwards or backwards as required (Fig. 7).
Starting
For mowers with self-drive, disengage the self-drive
before starting.
For starting, position yourself to the side or
behind the mower. Always maintain the
safety distance provided by the handle
length (Fig. 8). The engine is controlled via
the throttle control (item 3). Caution: The cutting blade
rotates as soon as the engine starts. Never position
hands or feet under the cutting deck.
Note: To disengage the engine brake during
starting, press the brake bar A against the
handle (Fig. 7).
Cold start
Move the throttle control
to the choke symbol.
Starting a warm engine
Move the throttle control to max (Fig. 6).
- pull out the starter cord until resistance is felt
- then pull through in one firm movement (Fig. 8).
Note: If the brake bar is not pressed against the handle
during starting, the electronic ignition will be short
circuited, and the engine brake will continue to be
engaged. In this situation (Fig. 3), the engine cannot be
started either with the manual or the electric starter.
Electric starter (550 RS)
Insert the ignition key into the ignition (item 16) on the
throttle control, and turn the key 1/4 turn clockwise.
After the engine has started, move the throttle control
(item 3) to the required position (max- eco- min) (Fig. 6).
Self-drive
On lawnmowers with self-drive,
control lever (B) is positioned in
front of the handle. Only engage
the drive mechanism with the
engine running. To engage the
self-drive mechanism, pull the
control bar (B) towards the handle. Release the control
bar to disengage the self-drive. With the control bar
released, there is no drive and the lawnmower can be
pushed forwards or backwards as required (Fig. 7).
Note: The switching point is subject to the adjustable
length of the Bowden cable. In an ideal case, this should
be 2 – 3 cm in front of the handle. The self-drive
Bowden cable adjustment can be made via the
thumbscrew, providing the self-drive has been switched
off (Fig. 9).
Rotating up = Bowden cable stretches,
- = later switching point
Rotating down = Bowden cable becomes shorter,
+ = earlier switching point
A further adjustment can be made at the gearbox end.
