NOTICE
NOTICE
The casing pipes of the diamond core drilling crown are not hardened. Hitting
(with tools) and impact (during transport) on the casing pipe will lead to damage
that is likely cause the diamond core drilling crown and/or drilling core to become
seized. The diamond core drilling crown may then be rendered unusable.
2.3.3 Sharpening the diamond core drilling crown
REMS Universal diamond core drilling crowns have roof-shaped diamond
segments and do not have to be sharpened in the as-delivered state. At the
right thrust pressure and possibly by adding water, the diamond segments
sharpen themselves. Unsuitable thrust pressure as well as dry drilling in concrete
leads to the diamond segments being "polished" and no longer being able to
cut. If this occurs, use the diamond core drilling crown to drill 10 mm to 15 mm
into sandstone, asphalt or a sharpening stone ((55) accessory art. no. 079012)
in order to sharpen the diamond-tipped segments once more.
REMS dry diamond core drilling crowns LS are delivered sharpened. The
diamond-tipped segments sharpen themselves with the micro-pulse technology
on the the core drilling machine switched on, with the use of a safety vacuum
cleaner/dust extractor of dust class M, e.g. REMS Pull M (Art. No. 185501) and
with the correct thrust pressure. If the diamond-tipped segments are polished
due to unsuitable thrust pressure, for example, and therefore no longer cut
properly, they can be sharpened. In this case, the diamond core drilling crown
is drilled 10 to 15 mm deep into sandstone, asphalt or a sharpening stone ((55)
accessory Art. No. 079012) to resharpen the diamond-tipped segments.
2.4 Manually-controlled dry boring REMS Picus S1, REMS Picus S3 and REMS
Picus SR (fi g. 4), REMS Picus DP (fi g. 10)
Secure the holder-up (12) to the drill collar (13) of the drive unit.
WARNING
WARNING
Only use the tool held by hand with the counterholder (12) fi tted (danger
of injury)! Never perform hand-held dry drilling with REMS Picus SR in
stage 1. The resulting high torque can lead to injury.
Inhalation of the dusts produced by dry drilling is harmful to the health. Observe
the national regulations. It is recommended to use a safety vacuum cleaner/
dust extractor of dust class M, e.g. REMS Pull M (Art. No. 185501) with the
appropriate fi lter; observe the operating instructions of the safety vacuum
cleaner/dust extractor. Use the suction rotor ((46) accessory Art. No. 180160)
with REMS Picus S1, REMS Picus S3 and REMS Picus SR. Connect the safety
vacuum cleaner/dust extractor to the suction hose connection (68) on REMS
Picus DP.
CAUTION
CAUTION
The mounted water supply system (15) gets in the way of hand-held dry drilling
with REMS Picus S1, REMS Picus S3 and REMS Picus SR and should there-
fore be disconnected. Remember to shut off the water inlet with its sealing cap
(14) to prevent dust from getting into the machine.
NOTICE
NOTICE
Always wet drilling with REMS universal diamond core drilling crowns
and REMS universal diamond core drilling crowns LS for steel-reinforced
concrete!
Always dry drilling with REMS dry diamond core drilling crowns LS with
core drilling machines with micro-pulse technology. Suck off the resulting
drilling dust with a suitable safety vacuum cleaner/dust extractor! Observe
the national regulations.
2.4.1 Only use tapping tool G ½ UDKB for REMS Picus S1, Picus S3 and Picus
SR and tapping tool G ½ TDKB for Picus DP
Manually-controlled tapping is made considerably easier, thanks to the REMS
tapping tool (49). This is fi tted with a conventional hardened- metal Ø 8 mm
masonry bit, which is secured in place with an SW 3 hexa gon socket head
wrench. The G ½ thread is used to screw the tapping tool into the spindle of
the drive unit, where it is gently tightened with an SW 19 wrench.
Due to different lengths of the REMS UDKB and UDKB LS to the REMS TDKB
LS, the G ½ UDKB tapping tool cannot be used for the REMS TDKB and the
G ½ TDKB tapping tool not for the REMS UDKB and UDKB LS!
2.4.2 Dust extraction REMS Picus S1, REMS Picus S3 and REMS Picus SR
(fi g. 4), REMS Picus DP (fi g. 10)
WARNING
WARNING
Inhalation of the dusts produced by dry drilling is harmful to the health. Observe
the national regulations. It is recommended to use a dust extractor to remove
drilling dust from the core bore. For REMS Picus S1, REMS Picus S3 and
REMS Picus SR, this consists of the REMS suction rotor ((46) accessory Art.
No. 180160) for dust extraction and a safety vacuum cleaner/dust extractor of
dust class M suitable for commercial use, e.g. REMS Pull M (Art. No. 185501)..
Observe the operating instructions of the safety vacuum cleaner/dust extractor.
The suction rotor (46) is screwed to the drive spindle (11) of the drive unit using
the G ½ connector. The combined annular core bit connector (47) on the
opposite side permits the fi tting of diamond core drilling crowns with female
thread UNC 1¼ and the attachment of the tapping tool (49).
REMS Picus DP has an integrated suction rotor for dust extraction. The suitable
safety vacuum cleaner/dust extractor of dust class M, e.g. REMS Pull M (Art.
No. 185501) is connected directly to REMS Picus DP at the suction hose
connection (68).

If the dust produced by dry boring is not removed, the diamond core drilling
crown may overheat and suffer damage. There is also a risk of injury when the
drilling dust compressed in the gap blocks the diamond core drilling crown.
2.5 Wet boring REMS Picus S1, Picus S3, Picus S2/3.5 and Picus SR
Optimum drilling performance will only be achieved if the diamond core drilling
crown is provided with a constant supply of water. This keeps the diamond core
drilling crown cool and allows drilled-out material to be swilled from the bore
hole. To connect the water supply system (15), remove the cover (14) and
attach the water supply system with the fi llister head screw supplied. The
quick-action coupling with water shutoff device should be fi tted with a ½" water
hose. Water pressure should not exceed 4 bar.
If there is no direct water connection available, water throughfl ow can be
achieved using the water pressure tank ((51) accessory art. no. 182006). Be
aware that there is suffi cient water fl ow.
When drilling with REMS Titan or REMS Simplex 2 the water extractor ((44)
accessory art. no. 183606) can be used. See Fig. 11 and 12 for assembly. This
consists of a water collecting ring, a pressure ring and a rubber washer (45).
The water extractor is fi xed to the base of the drilling column (1). The water
collecting ring is connected to a wet vacuum cleaner suitable for commercial
use, e.g. REMS Pull L or REMS Pull M. The rubber washer (45) must be cut
out exactly to fi t the diameter of the diamond core drilling crown.
WARNING
WARNING
REMS Picus DP is delivered without a PRCD fault current circuit breaker and
is suitable for dry drilling only. Wet drilling with, as well as connection of a water
hose to the REMS Picus DP is not permitted. There is a danger of electric
shock.
2.6 Boring with a drill upright
Good results can be obtained by operating with a drill upright. The purpose of
the drill upright is to guide the drive unit. Its power transfer rack-and-pinion
drive system ensures both hole-tapping with „feel" and powerful infeed of the
diamond core drilling crown. REMS Picus S1, REMS Picus S3, REMS Picus
SR and REMS Picus DP can be mounted optionally on the REMS Simplex 2
or REMS Titan drill stand. REMS Picus S2/3,5 must be mounted on REMS
Titan.
In REMS Titan the clamping angle (10) or the REMS Picus S2/3.5 must be
mounted. The clamping angle (10) or the REMS Picus S2/3.5 must be inserted
in the guide (53) and fastened with the screws (52) for this.
The boring trestle (1) of REMS Titan is infi nitely adjustable up to 45°. This allows
angled core drilling operations to be carried out within this angle range. The
degree marks on the struts (40) serve for orientation. To adjust the angle, the
two screws (31) at the foot of the boring trestle (1) are removed. The hexagon
head screw (37) and all the screws on the two struts must be loosened. The
boring trestle can now be swivelled to the desired position. Retighten all screws
before proceeding. The screws (31) are not installed to produce the angled
core drilling operation(s). The swivel adjustment of the boring trestle causes
the useful stroke range of the feed device of the REMS Titan to decrease more
or less. This means that you may have to use corresponding annular bit exten-
sions ((50) accessory art. no. 180155) (see 3.7).
The feed slide (2) can be locked on the drill stands. Tighten the wing nut (32)
for this. Locking prevents such undesired movements as the accidental lowering
of the drive unit while the diamond core drilling crown is being replaced.
On all drill stands the feed lever (4) can be fi tted to the right or left of the feed
slider (2) according to local conditions (not preassembled in the as-delivered
state of REMS Simplex 2). Lock the feed slider as described above for this.
Unscrew the fi llister head screw (34). Pull the feed lever off the feed shaft and
push it onto the shaft stump opposite. Screw in and tighten the fi llister head
screw (34).
To achieve better stability when drilling with REMS Titan and REMS Picus SR,
the spacer set (38) can be mounted. For this, the clamping angle (10) may
have to be disassembled from the REMS Titan by loosening the screws (52).
Then clamping angle (10) is pushed onto the drill collar (13) of the REMS Picus
SR so that the tapped holes (60) of the gearbox casing of Picus SR are posi-
tioned in relation to the screw holes of the clamping angle (10). Insert the spacer
(without fi llister head screws) and align. Screw in the fi llister head screws
included in the set and tighten. Tighten the fi llister head screws (8) of the
clamping angle (10). Fix the mounted clamping bracket together with Picus SR
to the REMS Titan as described in 3.4.
NOTICE
NOTICE
Remove dirt from between rack and slide immediately otherwise the slide can
block. The rack and slide could also be damaged.
