Introduction
These instructions apply to the Vetus (flexible) reserve diesel
fuel tanks.
For dimensions, see drawings on page 25.
N.B: These tanks are not suitable for petrol.
WARNING
Keep tank closed when not in use.
Do not store tank close to heat sources, sparks or naked
flame.
Prevent exposure to direct sunlight.
Maintenance
Regularly check the air-relief valve and clean the air-relief valve
sieve when necessary.
Annually, check the hoses and hose connections for possible
leaks and fit new hoses and/or hose clips when necessary. Also
check the tank for damage caused by abrasion. Replace a dam-
aged tank immediately.
Installation
Instead of just one tank, it is possible to distribute the total
capacity required between two or more tanks.
Each separate tank must be fitted with a filler connection and air
relief.
Distribute the tanks, and thus
their weight, evenly over the ship.
(F = Fuel, W = Water).
WARNING!
Never fit the filler cap in an enclosed space, spilled fuel
could then enter the ship!
Flexible spare tanks for diesel fuel 55, 100, 150, 215, 300, 500, 750, 1000, 1500 and 2000 litres
Position
Although the tank will change its shape to fit the space where it
is installed, the tank should preferably be installed in a com-
partment taking the following into account:
The tank must be easily accessi-
ble for inspection.
The tank should always be
installed above the maximum
bilge water level.
The compartment must be prop-
erly ventilated, but avoid exposing
the tank to direct sunlight.
The compartment dimensions
should relate to the tank dimen-
sions.
When filled, the tank should find
sufficient support at the sides with
enough free space at the top.
With reference to the height, do
not forget to take into account the
hose connectors and hoses.
The hull and sides must be
smooth. If not, then cover them
with felt or foam.
Instal fixing points to secure the
tank in the compartment.
With tanks of 500 litres (110 Imp.
gal., 132 US gal.) and more, the
tanks should be secured when full
with straps which are fitted over
the tank. Choose a position for
the deck filler cap so that the filler
hose can be as short as possible,
going straight from the filler cap to the tank and as short as pos-
sible.
