Battery Backup Assembly Instructions

NOTICE:
Replace the power supply batteries every six months
and after each power failure use.
The battery backup is located in the power supply and uses two 9-volt alkaline
batteries (not included).
1. Unplug the 120 volt power cord from the electrical outlet, and:
For a power motion sofa, disconnect the power supply from the motor connectors
behind the motion sofa; there are two motor connections to disconnect, one behind each

For a modular unit, disconnect the power supply from the motor connector behind the unit.
2. The battery compartment is located in the bottom of the power supply. Slide the battery
cover over to access the battery compartment.
3. Place the connection caps over the battery terminals on each battery. Place the batteries in

DANGER
– To reduce the risk of serious injury or death:
• Plug directly into a wall outlet. Do not use an extension cord, adapter or surge protector.
WARNING
– To reduce the risk of serious injury:
• Sit down in the unit slowly. To avoid tip over, do not throw your weight against the back
of the unit. Move the unit into or out of the reclining position slowly, making sure that
no children or pets are in close proximity.
• To safely exit the unit and prevent a tripping hazard, bring the back upright
and close the legrest.
• Do not use if power control is damaged or wet. Contact your La-Z-Boy
• The La-Z-Time
power units are intended for a single occupant, not exceeding 300 pounds
®
per seat. Do not operate individual seats or units with more than one occupant in or on
any part of the individual seat or unit.
NOTICE:
After 1 minute of continuous operation, allow the back
recline and legrest extension features to rest for 9 minutes.
Plug the 120 volt power cord directly into a wall outlet.
The power feature is operated by a power switch, which is located on the
outside arm or the inside arm depending on style; except for the armless
recliner, which uses a hand wand.
To raise the legrest and recline the back, press the bottom
button of a Style A power switch or the front button of a Style B
power switch and hold. Release the power switch when the
legrest and back recline reach the desired position.
To raise the back and lower the legrest, press the top button of a
Style A power switch or the back button of a Style B power
switch and hold. Release the power switch when the back and
legrest reach the desired position, or are completely closed.
Refer to the following page for armless recliner instructions.
The power units include a breakaway legrest safety feature. If the
legrest encounters most ordinary obstructions while closing, the
legrest will disengage, or breakaway, from the mechanism. You will hear a "pop" when the legrest
is disengaged and the legrest will stop moving.
If the legrest becomes disengaged from the mechanism, remove the obstruction from
the legrest path. Then firmly push the legrest closed with your legs. You will hear a "pop"
when the legrest is reconnected to the mechanism.
Because of the sensitivity of the breakaway feature, the legrest may disengage if you place your
full body weight toward the front of the unit while lowering the legrest. If this happens, firmly
push the legrest closed with your legs.
NOTICE:
To prevent damage to the safety mechanism, do not attempt
to reengage the legrest when it is in the fully open position.
