Rock Pond Instruction Manual
Congratulations on purchasing an innovative, quality home and garden product from The Step2 Company! Please
read through these instructions thoroughly before you install and operate the Rock Pond. Always follow the
recommendations and guidelines listed in this manual. In addition, please read the Pump Owner's Manual located
inside the pump box.
Rock Pond Safety
DANGER: Follow these steps to reduce risk of electric shock:
• Section 680-51 of the National Electric Code requires that the pump be connected only to a receptacle protected
by a ground-fault circuit-interrupter (GFCI). Contact a qualified electrician if you cannot verify that the receptacle
is properly protected by a GFCI.
• Do not remove the grounding pin from the plug. The grounding pin is important for electrical safety.
• You must disconnect the pump from power source before handling, service, or working in the water in which
the pump is operating.
• Do not use an extension cord for the pump.
WARNING: This product is not a toy. • Children must not be permitted to play in or around the Pond and/or
the electrical devices required for use with the Pond. Never leave children unattended near the Pond. Adult
supervision is always required when children have access to the Pond. This product requires adult assembly.
• The Rock Pond completely filled with water weighs approximately 320 lbs. Do not place the Rock Pond on a
deck or other raised structure. Sudden collapse of the structure and/or injuries could result.
NOTICE: THE ROCK POND IS FOR OUTDOOR USE ONLY. • Some water may exit the pond while in use.
The Rock Pond is equipped with an overflow drain hole located in the wall of the lower pond beneath the upper
pond. This limits the depth of the water in the pond. Any water that exits the pond through the overflow hole will
run onto the ground beneath the pond. • Never attempt to move the Rock Pond when it is full of water. Always
drain the Rock Pond completely before moving it. The pump can be used to drain the water from the Pond.
Simply remove the hose from the upper Pond and direct the hose to a drain or other appropriate location.
• Do not sit on the edge of the pond. The edge of the pond could collapse. • The Rock Pond is not intended
for use with fish.
• Do not add bleach to the pond water as it will cause the filter inside the pump to deteriorate.

Installation Instructions:
City Building Codes and Bylaws
Before setting up your Rock Pond, we recommend you check for restrictions in the building codes or
by-laws governing your local community. Since the Rock Pond is above ground and does not require
digging, by-laws and building codes may not apply. However, we recommend you check with your local
municipality because building codes and bylaws vary from city to city. When discussing the Rock Pond
with your municipality, please note:
(1) Installation of the Rock Pond can be considered temporary since it can be easily disassembled and
stored for the winter months in areas with cold climates;
(2) the lower pond can only be filled to 11-inches without excess water draining through the overflow hole.
Selecting a Location
First, you must decide upon a good outdoor location.
1. Select a location that will provide you with visual and audible enjoyment. Consider the view from
inside your home also. (Note: The Rock Pond is intended for outdoor use only.)
2. Find a location where both water and electricity are accessible. A garden hose should be within
convenient reach to add small amounts of fresh water as needed. A GFCI grounded electrical receptacle
should be within 12 feet. The Rock Pond comes furnished with a pump with a 12-foot long cord for your
convenience.
3. As with all electrical products that are used around water, there is a risk of severe electrical shock.
A properly grounded GFCI-protected outlet must be provided for use as the electric supply for your Rock
Pond pump.
4. Choose a level ground location.
5. Choose a location that is not under trees or shrubs. Leaves, seeds, and pollen will clog the pump's filter.
Site Preparation
Now you are ready to set up your Pond.
1. Using a straight edged shovel, smooth the ground at your desired setup location. Check the ground with a level.
Repeat until the location is level. You may have to distribute soil to level the ground where the Pond will be placed.
When the Pond is properly level, it can be filled to the appropriate height without water exiting the Pond. The waterfall
may not work if the Pond is not level.
2. Place the lower Pond section into the level location. Try placing the upper Pond level in the intended location. The
lower protrusion on the upper Pond will nest into the lower Pond when it is placed in the proper location. You may
have to turn the lower Pond in order to view the upper pond waterfall from the desired angle.
