General safety precautions
Distance to wall made of brick and
requirements for the floor plate:
Contact your local authority to inform you about the local
codes and to ensure that your installation is safe and legal.
See fig. 1.
Requirements for the floor plate: If the stove will be installed
on a combustible floor, a robust, solid, non-combustible
layer should cover the floor beneath the stove. This layer
should cover an area of at least 300 mm in front of the
stove door, and at least 150 mm either side of the opening.
(See Buildings Regulations in your country.) We recommend
that you contact the local Jøtul dealer prior to installation.
Distance from product to wall made of flammable material:
800 mm.
Distance to firewall: 100 mm.
Uninsulated flue pipe: If uninsulated flue pipes go through
floors or walls, the opening must be made of brick or
masonry, in such a way that the external surface of the
pipe does not get closer to flammable materials than 300
mm. Isolated flue pipes may have a different distance, if
necessary refer to fire technical product documentation
for the flue pipe.
Measures to prevent fires
When using your stove always follow these safety
precautions:
• Never overfire the stove. This may cause serious
damage to the stove and the chimney.
• Never use gasoline or similar liquids to start a fire in
this heater.
• Avoid creating a "low pressure" condition in the room
where the stove is operating, because this could cause
poisonous gases to be drawn into the room.
• Never extinguish the flames or ashes with water during
use as this may damage your stove and possibly cause
injury to yourself.
• Make sure that the furniture and other flammable
materials do not get too close to the stove.

Installation of Jøtul F 118
Check the stove to ensure that it is free of any damage in
transit before commencing with the installation.
Assembly prior to installation
The productis heavy! You will need help during assembly and
when the product is being placed into position.
Assembling the stove
1. Remove the top plate and all the separate parts, like
baffle plate and burnplates, inside the stove.
2. Place the cardboard packaging on the floor and lay the
stove carefully down on its side. Fasten the 4 legs with
screws and washers. (Fig. 2 A)
3. Fasten the heat shield in the 2 screws under the fire
place. Raise the stove carefully.
4. The flue outlet and the cover plate exchange positions
if one of the smoke outlets of the sides of the stove is
preferred. (Fig. 4 A-B.)
5. Assemble the burn plates by hanging them on the bosses
of the side plates (fig. 3 A).
6. Position the baffle plate. Be sure that the baffle plate
rests securely to the rear (fig. 4 C).
Important note: If the baffle plate is positioned
incorrectly, the flue gas will go straight into the flue
pipe. This will result in too high flue gas temperatures,
which may damage the rear plate, and it will make
heating uneconomical.
7. Connect the knob to the door latch with the screw and
nut provided. (Fig. 5 A)
Choose a Flue Exit Position
Prior to making an opening in the chimney, the fireplace
should be set up as a test to ensure proper placement on
the firewall in relation to the chimney. See fig. 1 for
dimensions of firewall. Mark off hole for the flue pipe (pay
attention to any rise toward the chimney)and place the
flue pipe outside the smoke outlet of the fireplace. Use a
gasket to close the gap between the flue pipe and the
smoke outlet.
Assembling of the flue
Drill a hole for the flue pipe. The distance from stove to
firewall/chimney shall be at least 100 mm. Always use a
chimney collar when connection to chimney. Use the
supplier's recommended chimney collar when connecting
