1. Brief description
The EM-PB-GATEWAY-IFS module serves in connecting devices of the Interface system range to
PROFIBUS-DP according to EN 50170. Up to 32 devices (slaves) can be connected. The gateway can
be operated by any standard C0 master in the cyclical data exchange. It also supports acyclic
connections. The system is designed so that safety functions of the connected devices (e.g. ELRs, EMMs
or PSR devices) inside the device cannot be influenced by establishing a connection to PROFIBUS.
The assignment of the process data can be individually adjusted to the application requirements using the
GSD file. Alternatively, a gateway DTM will be developed which ensures integration into FTD
environments. The GSD file (with the communication characteristics of the Profibus Gateway) can be
found at www.phoenixcontact.net/download.
The PROFIBUS address is set using a button and optionally a device connected to the S-PORT (PC,
memory stick, actuator). Termination of PROFIBUS on the module is not provided and must take place
using appropriate connectors if required.
2. Terms and definitions
PROFIBUS-DP
PROFIBUS bus system with DP protocol. DP stands for distributed peripherals. The
main tasks of PROFIBUS-DP is fast cyclical data exchange between the central DP
master and the peripherals.
PROFIBUS-DPV1
PROFIBUS-DPV1 is an extension of the DP protocol. This also enables acyclic
exchange of parameter, diagnostics, control and test data.
DP master
A master that behaves according to standard EN 50170, volume 2, PROFIBUS,
with the DP protocol is called DP master.
Master class 1
A Master Class 1 is an active device at the PROFIBUS-DP. Cyclical data exchange
with other devices is one characteristic. Typical Master Class1 are PLCs with a
PROFIBUS-DP connection.
Master class 2
Devices of this type are engineering, project planning or operating devices. They
are used during commissioning or for maintenance and diagnostics for configuring
the connected devices, evaluating measured values and requesting the state of the
device.
DP slave,
A slave that is operated at the PROFIBUS bus with the PROFIBUS-DP protocol and
DP standard slave
behaves according to standard EN 50170, volume 2, PROFIBUS, is called DP slave.
DPV1 slave,
The EM-PB-GATEWAY-IFS is a DPV1 slave with the following characteristics:
S7 slave
• Supports the S7 model (diagnostic alarms, process alarms)
• Parameterizable
• Reading/writing data records
Type files / GSD
Device master data (GSD) contain DP slave descriptions in a uniform format. The
use of GSD simplifies the project planning of the master and the DP slave.
