STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

DANGER
To prevent possible explosion or the ignition
of vaporized fuel, DO NOT store equipment
with fuel in the fuel tank or carburetor in any
enclosure with an open flame (water heater,
furnace pilot lights, etc.).
After each days use, follow procedures below to prepare
the unit for the next day of operation:
1. Clean all dirt and debris from unit and rub a small
amount of oil (motor oil is sufficient) on the cutting
and ram blade to help protect from rust.
2. Check oil level in engine and gearcase. Add
appropriate amounts as necessary.
3. Close fuel valve at bottom of fuel tank.
4. Check air filter element. Clean or replace as needed.
5. Check unit for loose or broken parts.
6. Check all parts which need to be lubricated. Lubri-
cate as necessary.

Before the equipment is put into storage for any period
exceeding 30 days, the following steps should be taken:
1. Drain all fuel from fuel tank and fuel lines. (Use a
hose or fuel line, routed from fuel shut-off to con-
tainer).

WARNING
DO NOT smoke or allow open flames near unit
when servicing or repairing fuel lines, fuel tank
or carburetor.
Use an appropriate container for fuel storage.
2. Start the engine and allow to run until all fuel is used
from carburetor float bowl.
3. While engine is still warm, drain the crankcase oil
and replace with the proper weight of oil correspond-

ing to the season when the equipment will next be
used.

CAUTION
NEVER attempt repairs or service in the engine
area when the engine is hot.
4. Remove spark plug and squirt a small amount of
engine oil into the cylinder. Turn the engine over a
few times to distribute this oil throughout the engine.
5. Lubricate all lubrication fittings.
6. Clean and oil all cutting blades to prevent rust.
7. If unit is equipped with cut-off, remove roller chain
and clean by immersing in a non-flammable solvent.
After cleaning, soak the chain in warm engine oil,
wipe to remove excess oil and reinstall.
7.3 TO PUT EQUIPMENT INTO
AN EXTENDED STORAGE
1. Check for loose hardware, broken parts and dam-
aged chains or sprockets. Tighten or replace as nec-
essary.
2. Check all belts for appropriate tightness and for dam-
age. Adjust to proper tension and/or replace as nec-
essary.
3. Be sure blades are sharpened to correct specifica-
tions.
4. Check air filter element. Replace if necessary.
5. Check all oil levels. Refer to engine manual specifi-
cations for the correct oil weight and amount for the
engine. Refer to Lubrication section for gearcase oil
specifications.
6. Fill fuel tank and turn on fuel valve (located on bottom
of fuel tank).
7. Start engine and check for fuel leaks, oil leaks or
rough engine operation. Correct any conditions
which may affect performance.
