An alternator supplied with a frequency of 50 Hz can also operate at 60 Hz connecting terminals 6 and 7 of regulator terminal
board with a bridge.

Voltage calibration. The calibration of voltage should be carried out by qualified personnel only because
of electrocution hazard
Output voltage regulation should be carried out at nominal revolving speed (3000 rpm for 2 poles alternators and 1500 rpm for
those at 4 poles) within the nominal value +/-5%.
The alternators are calibrated to deliver the nominal voltage. To correct the output voltage of the alternator it is necessary to act
on the potentiometer located on the regulator.Voltage increases with a clockwise rotation of the potentiometer.
Protection
The electronic regulator acts also as protection against overloads on exciting windings of the alternator when functioning at a
frequency lower than the nominal one, in case of overload or loads with low power factor.
A first protection checks the frequency of the output voltage and de-excites the alternator when it is lower than 45 Hz (55 Hz
when nominal frequency is 60 Hz). A second protection checks the voltage at the ends of the exciter stator and de-excites the

alternator when this voltage is higher than the intervention level set with the S potentiometer. The intervention level can be
increased with an anti-clockwise rotation of the potentiometer.
Even in case of damage of one of the two regulation devices, the alternator operation is guaranteed because these two regula-
tors work independently.
To operate with compound only: remove F1 fuse and connect F(+) to terminal 1; to operate with electronic voltage regulator
only: remove connections FA1, FA2 and FA3 from rectifiers and connect F(+) to terminal 1.
Frequency variation
An alternator supplied for operating at Volt 400/50 Hz can also operate at 480/60 Hz.
7. SINGLE PHASE DUTY OF THREE-PHASE ALTERNATORS
load
The output power in single-phase in continuous duty is approximately 65% of three-phase output power in case of line-to-line
voltage and 40% in case of phase voltage (star connection).
8. GENERAL NOTE
Operation in particular settings
If the alternator is going to be used within a soundproof generating set, make sure that only fresh air enters it.
1.10
This can be ensured by placing the alternator's air inlet near the external air intake. Moreover, remember that the quantity of
1.10
air required is 10 m3/min.
1.10
Bearings
1.15
The bearings of E1X alternators are self lubrificated and therefore they do not require mainteniances for a period of more than
1.15
30.000 hours. When it is necessary to proceed to the general overhaul of the generating set it is advisable to wash the bearing
with a proper, to remove and to replace the grease reserve. It is Possible to use: AGIP GR MW3 - SHELL ALVANIA 3 - MOBIL OIL
MOBILUXGREASE 3or an other equivalent grease.

Diode bridge
Normally it comes used the diode bridge for 25A - 800V.
Checkout diode bridge. The checkout of single diode valves of rectifier bridge can be executed either with an
ohmmeter or with a battery and relative lamp as described here below. A diode valve works regularly when:
- the resistance, calculated with an ohmmeter, is very low in one sense and very high in the other.
- with battery and lamp, it is verified that the ignition of the lamp is possible only with one of the two available connections,
as shown in figure 7: A = Lampe OFF, B = Lampe ON.
