Troubleshooting

Problem
The pump does not pump water.
The pump has a reduced flow
capacity and/or head pressure.
Probable Cause
The pump was not primed properly.
The pump speed is too slow.
The total head is too high.
The suction lift is excessive.
Air is leaking into the suction line.
The water level drops when pumping,
exposing the suction inlet.
There are air pockets or leaks in the suction
line or connections.
The impeller is clogged.
The foot valve strainer is clogged or too small.
The suction pipe is not submerged deep
enough.
The suction lift is too great.
The pressure/head required exceeds the
capacity of the pump.
The impeller is worn or there are defective
parts.
Corrective Action
Be sure the pump body is full of water (See priming
instructions). Add more water to the pump body and/or
suction line, if necessary.
Check the voltage at the motor terminals and at the
meter when the pump is running. If the reading is low,
check with your local electric company. Also double
check for loose connections.
A pump that is intended for higher head service is
required.
Place the pump closer (vertically) to the water source.
Ensure the suction line is long enough.
Inspect and repair the suction line.
Check the water supply. Add more suction line to keep
the inlet submerged and under water.
Inspect and repair the suction line and connections
Remove and clean the impeller.
Use a larger foot valve, or clean the strainer.
Add onto the suction line to keep it submerged and
below the water level.
Place the pump closer (vertically) to the water level;
pump is too high.
A larger pump is required.
Order replacement parts using the repair parts list in
the Service Parts section.
