5.2 Lowering the Bolster (Figure 16)
1. Make sure that the chain is not in the slot (R). Close the
hand pump release valve. Actuate the pump until the lift
jack plunger is within 2 inches of being fully retracted.
Insert chain into the slot.
2. Slowly pump the handle until the right bolster pin is
loose. Remove the retainer from the end of the bolster
pin (S). Remove the bolster pin.
3. Actuate the pump and raise the bolster (T) until the left
pin is loose. Remove the retainer and pull the bolster
pin out.
4. Slowly open hand pump release valve. When the
bolster has lowered to the next position, insert left
bolster pin and replace the retainer.
5. Using the pump, lower the bolster until the right pin can
be installed. Replace the retainer on the pin.
6. Remove chain from the bolster slot to eliminate
inadvertent loading of the chain.
WARNING: Make sure that both bolster pins are
fully inserted and that the retainers are installed
on the ends of the bolster pins before pressurizing
the cylinder or loading the press.
5.3 Positioning the Hydraulic Cylinder (Figure 17)
Loosen, do not remove, the locknuts (U) located under the
bolster (V). Grasp the cylinder mounting block and push
the cylinder assembly (W) to the desired location. Tighten
the locknuts (U).
CAUTION: to maximize cylinder and pump life, do not
run pump at full pressure after cylinder plunger is
fully retracted or fully extended.

5.4 Positioning the Press Frame (Figure 18)
1. Loosen the four bed setscrews (Y), about 1 inch.
2. Open the release valve (X) on the frame-mounted hand
pump. The small cylinders on the frame will retract and
the press bed will rest on the rollers (Z).
3. Move the press frame by pushing it to the desired
position along the bed length.
4. Close the release valve (X) and stroke the frame-
mounted pump until the bed no longer rests on the
rollers. For long term operation in the same position,
turn down the four setscrews (Y) on the press bed to
lock it in position.
5. Open the release valve on the pump (X).
5.5 Operating the Electric, Air, or Hand Pumps
Refer to the Pump Instruction Sheet for complete
V
information on pump installation and operation.
5.6 Workpiece Set-Up
WARNING: Items not aligned with the center of the
cylinder are unstable under pressure and can be
propelled out of the press, causing serious personal
injury or equipment damage.
If spacers are used in the set-up, they should be
constructed in one solid piece or tack welded together for
stability.
