6.2 Maintenance of the bearings
The effective life of the bearings depends on many factors and especially on:
the duration of the grease,
the environmental conditions and operating temperature,
the external loads and vibrations.
The D side bearings (coupling side) and N side bearings (opposite the couplings) are stagnant, with an amount
of grease that provides for a long operating life.
Such period has a duration of approximately 30,00hours under normal use conditions, for all bearings.
In any case replace the bearings during the complete check-up of the unit.
6.3 Disassembly and reassembly operations when replacing the bearings
BEFORE DISASSEMBLING THE GENERATOR FROM THE DRIVE MOTOR, MAKE SURE THE SAME
CANNOT ABSOLUTELY BE STARTED.
Study the instructions before disassembling the generator. Also check for the availability of suitable
lifting equipment for the weights of the components that have to be handled.
Check to make sure that all of the handling safety measures have been adopted.
The disassembly and reassembly operations must be carried out by qualified and authorized personnel,
we recommend you to refer to the workshops authorized by Marelli Motori Service.
Whenever needed, mark the components, when disassembling the machine, to identify their position
during the reassembly.
Disconnect the generator from the drive motor; remove the fixing brackets on the feet, connections and coupling
device (SAE disk/joint). Disconnect the terminals of the power cables from the terminal box.
Distance the generator from the motor using the eyebolts present on the generator. (The weight of the
generator is indicated on the plate).
For double bearing generators:
Remove the joint of the shaft and the key from the extension of the axis.
Remove the protections 432 and 430 from the shield on the N side (400).
Remove the screws that secure the N side of the shield to the terminal box, disconnect the terminals of
the exciter stator, (+) and (-), from the regulator by cutting the cable clamps.
