S4 EXPLORER X-ray Spectrometer Room Planning and Pre-Installation
Teleservice Modem
The spectrometer computer is equipped with a modem for hardware and software diagnosis through
the AXS Teleservice Centers. For this purpose a telephone jack (preferably Western connector) near
the spectrometer is required as well as two additional plugs (preferably spike protected) for PC and
printer.
A telephone outlet for western connectors must be installed nearby (approx. 5 m). A cable (length
approx. 5 m) equipped with 2 western plugs for the connection a modem and a telephone outlet are
required. All of these components are needed for Bruker AXS Service to use the teleservice tools.

For the connection of these devices 4 (shock-proof sockets or one quadruple connector strip are nec-
essary.
The completion of the above mentioned installations has to be confirmed by the customer via fax or
letter to Bruker AXS. Only after the receipt of this confirmation will the Bruker AXS Service finish the
installation of the S4.

Vacuum Equipment

In case the supplied air filter of the vacuum pump is not used, a vent opening outdoors should be pro-
vided for the exhaust gases of the vacuum pump.
Proportional Counter
As a standard counter for detecting soft radiation with 0.1 keV < E < 8 keV a flow proportional counter
with P10 gas and a high transmission window with a thickness of 0.6µm or 0.3µm respectively is used.
As an option the sealed proportional counter Pro4 may be used, which detects also with a high trans-
mission window radiation with 0.1 keV < E < 8 keV.
