S4 EXPLORER X-ray Spectrometer
Introduction
X-ray Warning Displays
The spectrometer S4 EXPLORER has two orange X-ray warning displays which signal the status 'X-
ray radiation activated' ('X-rays ON'). The displays are labeled with the international radiation symbol.
The X-ray warning displays are switched by contacts of K52 and K53 (contactors inside the X-ray
generator). They illuminate when the high voltage generation is turned on.
The electrical current flowing through the warning displays is monitored permanently by a control logic
implemented on the PCB 'Midi Universal IO-Board' (C79298-A322-B221). In case of an faulty display
both safety lines will be interrupted and this way the X-ray radiator will be turned off immediately.
External X-ray Warning Display
The External X-ray Warning Display is available as an option and can be attached at any location
outside the spectrometer. The illuminated orange display signals the status 'X-ray ON'.
The external X-ray warning display is switched by contacts of K52 and K53 (contactors inside the X-
ray generator). It illuminates when the high voltage generation is turned on.
The electrical current flowing through the external warning display is monitored continuously by a con-
trol logic implemented on the PCB 'Midi Universal IO-Board' (C79298-A322-B221). In case of a faulty
display, both safety lines will be interrupted and the X-ray radiator will be turned off immediately.
