Caution
Please read the use instructions carefully and
completely before using the appliance.
Keep the appliance out of reach of children.
Before plugging into a socket, check that your
voltage corresponds to the voltage printed on the
bottom of the appliance.
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider
than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock,
this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way.
If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug.
If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician.
Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
Avoid touching hot parts, especially the hotplate.
Never let the cord come in contact with the hotplate.
Do not put the carafe on other heated surfaces (such as
stove burners, hot trays, etc.).
Be careful when operating the frothing attachment as
hot steam may escape.
Before brewing coffee for a second time, always
allow the coffeemaker to cool down for approximately
5 minutes by switching off the appliance, otherwise steam
will develop when filling the water tank with cold water.
Braun electric appliances meet applicable safety
standards. Repairs or replacement of the cord must
be done by authorized service personnel only.
Faulty, unqualified repair work may cause accidents or
injury to the user.
This appliance was constructed to endure normal
household usage.

A Setting into operation
The water filter cartridge (7) is only to be used with
municipally treated tap or well water that is regularly
tested to be microbiologically safe (max. 85 °F).
It gives you purer tasting coffee by removing chlorine,
bad tastes and odors as well as scale. Provided the
cartridge is replaced regularly, it not only provides better
tasting coffee, but can also increase the life of your
coffeemaker by preventing calcification or scale buildup.
By using a water filter cartridge and exchanging it
regularly, you normally will not need to decalcify your
coffeemaker. However, if your machine takes much
longer than normal to brew, the appliance must be
decalcified.
To install the water filter cartridge, remove the space
compensator (6) from the water tank and insert the water
filter cartridge (7). (It is important to keep the space
compensator as it must be installed in the water tank
whenever the water filter cartridge is removed, e.g.,
for decalcification).
After installing a new water filter, run a full 12 cups
of water only through the brewing cycle without coffee
grounds in the swing-out filter basket.
For best results, replace the water filter cartridge every
two months, assuming regular use of the coffeemaker.
You should set the water filter exchange dial two months
forward as a reminder to replace the water filter (the dial
can be moved by flipping back the water tank lid and
turning it using the handle on the underside of the dial).
B Making coffee
Note:
Before using the coffeemaker for the first time, or after
a long period of non-use, fill both water tanks (5,9)
with the maximum amount of water and run the brewing/
frothing cycles.
This appliance allows you to prepare a variety of coffee
drinks, such as regular coffee, cappuccino, café latte,
dessert drinks as well as milk-based hot chocolate, and
even use different types of coffee (flavored, blended,
espresso, etc.).
Fill the large water tank (5) with cold water, put a No. 4
paper filter into the swing-out filter basket and fill with
coffee grounds. Set the flavor selector dial (4) to suit
your taste preference (the dial is moved by flipping back
the water tank lid and pushing the dial either left or right).
