Installation
INTRODUCTION
Flotec pond filters maintain a natural balance, clear
water, and healthy fish and plants in your pond.
Pond pollutants can accumulate at the bottom of the
pond. The pollutants dissolve into the pond water, pro-
ducing harmful toxic by-products. These by-products will
affect fish health and cause cloudy water. Pond filter has
been specifically designed to remove harmful pollutants
by converting them into harmless gases which will
evaporate into the atmosphere. No chemical additives
are required.
How it works
(Figure 1)
1. Water is pumped from the pond into the filter.
2. A spray bar oxygenates the water, promoting growth of
friendly bacteria.
3. Special reticulated foam filters are layered for mechan-
ical filtration.
4. Patented Flocor® filter medium creates a home for
friendly bacteria that consume harmful toxins in the
water.
5. Healthy water is returned to the pond.
SELECTION
Refer to Table I to compare pond size with filter model
required to ensure system will provide adequate condi-
tions to maintain proper fish health.

* If additional fountain height is desired, use next larger size
rather than the pump specified. This allows for extra fountain
height and provides sufficient water volume for proper pond
filter operation.
INSTALLATION
Pond filters are typically installed in one of two ways:
1) at a remote location away from the pond, and 2) at
the pond site with the filter discharge as the starting point
for a waterfall that cascades down into the pond. See
Page 1 for examples of typical installations.
NOTE: In either installation, water is discharged using
gravity, so filter must be higher than the pond.
The remote installation requires two sections of flexible
tubing for both the discharge (outlet) to pond, and to
make the connection from the pond pump to the filter
inlet. A waterfall installation requires only one length of
flexible tubing which is used to connect the pond pump
to the filter inlet. Check the model number of your filter
against Table II for inlet and outlet connection size. This
determines what size flexible tubing is needed. Measure
distance from the pond to the filter and purchase an ade-
quate length of tubing.
After installation the filter and tubing may be hidden by
landscaping rocks, plants and shrubs, wood chips, etc.

NOTICE: If water is pumped into the filter faster than the
maximum gallons per minute (GPM) shown in the chart
above, the filter may overflow causing loss of water from
the pond. If this occurs, simply restrict the water flow
into the filter by installing an inline restrictor clamp or
flow valve on the tubing that leads to the filter.
