Do not allow system or system components to freeze; do not expose filter assem-
bly to direct sunlight (ultra violet light).
Step 1. Thread the brass compression fittings into the filter head using Teflon
tape (Figure 1). Do not use joint compound. Tighten securely with a
wrench but do not overtighten. For 1/2-inch water line use the rubber fer-
rules, for 3/4-inch water line use the brass ferrules.
Step 2. Turn off the water supply and drain the water lines by opening a faucet in
an upstairs sink in the house and one in the basement of the house.
Measure and cut the water line (Figure 2).
Step 3. Slip the compression nut and appropriate ferrule on each end of the pipe.
For 1/2-inch water line use the rubber ferrules, for 3/4-inch water line use
the brass ferrules (Figure 2).
Step 4. Slide the filter into position in the water line taking careful note of the
proper water flow direction (Figure 3). Use one wrench to hold the fitting
that was installed into the filter housing and tighten the nut with a second
wrench. Turn on the water supply and test for leaks. Thoroughly flush the
filter by running the water for 30 minutes.
Step 5. Installations using metal pipe require a grounding jumper around the filter
(Figure 3). Use No. 4 AWG copper wire or larger. Grounding jumper must
meet code requirements.
When to change the filter cartridge
When the water flow is noticeably reduced it is time to change the cartridge.
Generally you should change the cartridge every 6 – 12 months, however, water
conditions vary greatly and you may need to change your cartridge more fre-
quently.
Step 1. Rotate the built-in valve to the bypass position and press the pressure
release button.
Step 2. Unscrew the filter canister and remove the cartridge. Inspect the
O-Ring and lubricate with petroleum jelly if necessary. For proper sealing
the O-Ring should be replaced every three cartridge changes.
Step 3. Replace the filter cartridge and reinstall the filter canister. Rotate the built-
in valve to the filter position and press the pressure release button to
remove trapped air.
