Easy to use
Training times: 3 x daily distributed throughout the course of the day (morning,
midday, evening). In the first days the basic exercise and a tension exercise
(alternate between the 3 exercises) are each repeated 3 x daily 8 – 10 times.
Then combine the basic exercise 3 x daily with at least one tension exercise
(alternate) and repeat both exercises 20 x.
The exercises should be continued for 6 months, even if the required outcome is
already achieved after a few days or weeks. This is the only way to ensure that
new movement / behaviour patterns become automatic responses and to avoid
relapses.
Note: Breath in and out uniformly through the nose during all exercises.
Exercise 1 – Basic exercise
Relax the lips and place them around the lip wedge. Press the lip wedge together
tightly with the lips and maintain this position for 6 seconds. Then release the lip
pressure. The lips should rest without tension around the lip wedge for 6 seconds.
Maintain the correct tongue, head and jaw position.
Figure 1a
The lips sit relaxed around the lip wedge and are pushed slightly
forward (puckered lips).
Figure 1b
The lips press the lip wedge together tightly.
Tension exercises 2/3/4
Tensing and relaxing of the muscles is enhanced by negative pressure build-up in
the mouth. This is important for the success of the therapy!
Pull the lip wedge forward with two fingers (exercise 2), downwards (exercise 3)
and upwards (exercise 4). Maintain tension for 6 seconds.
When it is pulled, the lip wedge is pressed together with the lips and a high
degree of suction is exerted on the mouth shield (high negative pressure
build-up in the mouth).
After 6 seconds maintain the tension, bite briefly on the posterior teeth and
swallow once. Concentrate on maintaining the correct position of the tongue,
lower jaw and head during pulling and swallowing. Then relax the lips again
for 6 seconds. Always maintain all the positions.
