General Usage
1. Ensure that all surfaces and in particular the rack and pinion are free
from dust and dirt.
2. Apply a light oil to sliding surfaces and wipe off excess. A lack of oil
may cause scratches and result in a poor sliding efficiency.
3. When not in use always ensure that the jaw lock is released. Store
in box for safekeeping.
Measurement
1. Before taking measurements ensure that measuring surfaces are
wiped clean and that the pointer coincides with the dial 'O' mark with
the jaws closed.
2. When pointer does not align with zero see ' Dial zero adjustment'
section.
Taking A Reading
For general measurement hold the main beam in the right hand and
slide the moving jaw using the thumb grip for large movement and
thumb wheel for fine adjustment. Bring the jaws firmly and squarely
against the measured object, reading off the dimensions on the main
and dial scales. See following examples:

Dial Zero Adjustment
Ensure that the measuring surfaces are wiped clean and bring the jaws
together. If the pointer deviates from the '0' mark on the dial then
correct as follows.
Deviation From '0' Within 10 Dial Divisions
1. Loosen bezel clamp and turn bezel to align dial '0' mark with point.
2. Lock bezel clamp.
Note: Tightness in bezel rotation can be adjusted by loosening the
screw on the rear sid of the bezel.
Deviation From 'O' Over 10 Dial Divisions
1. Ensure that the '0' mark on the scale is at the top of the dial by
adjusting the bezel.
2. Open the jaws by about 10 to 20mm, bringing the pointer to zero.
Unscrew and remove the bezel clamp and insert the adjuster into
the slot behind the bezel, fig.4.
3. Press the adjuster, fig.5, so that the dial pointer will not move as you
slide the jaws together.
4. With the jaws together, remove the adjuster and check that the
pointer is at zero.

Measuring Methods
Outside measurement
Put the work piece as close to the reference surface as possible fig.6
and make the measuring surfaces perfectly contact with the workpiece
fig.7.
Neck measurement
Use the thinner tip section of the outside jaws fig.8.
Depth measurement
Set the depth bar perpendicular to the bottom of the workpiece fig.9.
Inside measurement
Place the inside jaws as deep as possible and make the measuring
surfaces meet perfectly with the workpiece fig 10. fig.11 take the
maximum reading, fig.12 take the minimum reading.
Step measurement
Set the step measurement surface parallel to the reference surface of
the workpiece. fig.13.

Allgemeiner Gebrauch
1. Sicherstellen, daß alle Oberflächen und insbesondere die
Zahnstangenvorrichtung frei von Staub und Schmutz sind.
2. Ein leichtes Öl auf die Gleitflächen auftragen und überschüssiges Öl
abwischen. Fehlendes Öl kann Kratzer verursachen, die das
Verschieben erschweren können.
3. Bei Nichtgebrauch immer darauf achten, daß die Feststellschraube
gelöst ist. Die Schieblehre sicher in dem Etui aufbewahren.
Messung
1. Vor dem Messen prüfen, ob die Meßflächen sauber sind und der
Zeiger bei geschlossenen Meßschenkeln mit dem '0'-Teilstrich auf
der Uhr übereinstimmt.
2. Ist der Zeiger nicht mit Null ausgerichtet, siehe Abschnitt
'Nullstellung der Uhr'.
Ablesung eines Meßwerts
Für allgemeine Messungen die Hauptschiene in der rechten Hand
halten und den beweglichen Meßschenkel mit dem Daumengriff für
große Bewegungen und mit dem Daumenrad für Feineinstellung
verschieben. Die Meßschenkel fest und gerade in Kontakt mit dem zu
messenden Objekt bringen und die Abmessungen auf dem Hauptskala
und der Rundskale ablesen.
