Note : Rechargeable 9V batteries can be used. See your local dealer for details.
5. Operation of the CS330
Press the retuning button while turning the tuning control clockwise. Release the retuning button when you hear a
faint signal. The optimum tuning point is reached when the sonorous signal is barely audible. The device will lose its
sensitivity when operated in a silent setting or if the sonorous signal is too loud.
Attention : Make sure no metal objects are in the vicinity when tuning the device.
Retuning
If the device should go out of tune for any reason e.g. temperature changes, different soil, detection of large metal
objects, different discrimination control setting, ... you can simply press the retuning button to return the previously
selected optimum tuning point.
Discrimination
The CS330 has a variable discrimination control, allowing the operator to select a specific setting, ranging from all-
metal detection to the rejection of iron and silver paper.
Adjust the discrimination level as follows : press the retuning button, set the discrimination control at the desired level
and release the retuning button.
Discrimination of a target object is indicated by a reduction in signal strength. For example, an iron nail will cause a
negative reaction (reduction in sound or no sound) with the reject control set at its midway position, while a coin will
generate a positive reaction (sound increases in strength).
Please note that the detector may ignore certain target objects when a high level of discrimination is being
used.
Ground Effect
The signal of your detector will be affected by the type of terrain you are searching. The ground effect normally
produces either an increase or decrease in the strength of the audio signal when the search head is raised from the
ground. This effect can be controlled in two ways.
The ground effect will remain constant if the search head is kept at a steady height. The second method consists in
detuning the device, making it less susceptible to the ground effect. However, this will also make the machine less
sensitive to coins. You should only use this method when the ground effect is severe.
6. Using your detector in the field
Detection
Test the type of signal you will hear when a metal object is detected. Place the detector on a table and move a metal
object at a constant distance from left to right in front of the metal detector. You will note that the volume will increase
quickly as the metal object passes directly in front of the search head, with the loudest sound occurring when the
