1
To avoid damage to the sensor, remove it from the clip
before cleaning either piece.
2
Do not sterilize the sensor or clips by irradiation, steam,
or ethylene oxide.
The sensor may be surface-cleaned by wiping it with an agent
such as 70% isopropyl alcohol. Do not immerse the sensor in
liquid.
The clip may be cleaned by either wiping it with, or soaking it for
ten minutes in, 70% isopropyl alcohol. If the clip is soaked, be
sure to rinse it with water and air dry it prior to using it on the next
animal.
After each cleaning and prior to each usage, inspect
the sensor and cable for fraying, cracking, breakage, or
other damage. Inspect the clip for cracking or breakage,
or loss of spring tension that would allow slippage or
movement of the sensor from its proper position. If
defects are noted, do not use the sensor or clip.
Disinfecting
Clean the pulse oximeter before disinfecting it.
The recommended disinfectants include: ethanol 70%, isopropanol
70%, glutaraldehyde-type 2% liquid disinfectants.
Sterilization may cause damage to the equipment and is
therefore not recommended for this pulse oximeter unless
otherwise indicated in your hospital's servicing schedule.
Never use EtO or formaldehyde for disinfection.
