immobilizer as follows:
Heat pan: Heat in water at a temperature of
160° to 170°F (70°–75°C) for one minute or
until transparent. Hold the flaps and straps
out of the water. Remove from heat pan at an
angle to let water drain off without stretching
the immobilizer and place on a flat surface.
Pat dry with a towel. Blot any water from the
flaps and straps.
Convection oven: Heat without overlapping
or folding on a baking sheet with a non-stick
surface in an oven preheated to 195° to 205°F
(90–95°C) until transparent (softening may
take up to 10 minutes). To prevent stretching
and accidental bonding, two people should
remove the item from the baking sheet. Place
on a flat surface.
3. With the patient supine, the foot elevated,
and the knee positioned appropriately,
position a healthcare professional at each
side of the leg.

4. Place the immobilizer under the leg. Bring
the immobilizer, working from proximal to
distal, up to the posterior leg surface. Center
the knee in the opening and fasten the hook-
and-loop closure on the flaps across the front
of the leg (A). If necessary, gently pull the
material evenly around the leg, from inside the
immobilizer toward the flaps. Do not fasten
the straps at this time.
5. Stroke the immobilizer to mold it snug against
the leg.
6. Leave the immobilizer in place until it is
completely cool. Continued stroking will help
it maintain its shape.

7. Fasten the straps on the anterior leg surface
as follows:
— F irst, fasten the straps closest to the knee,
the proximal one and then the distal one.
— N ext, fasten the strap at the proximal end
of the immobilizer, followed by the one at
the distal end.
— F inally, fasten the remaining two straps.
8. The immobilizer can be trimmed and the
edges flared as necessary. Areas that have
been stitched cannot be trimmed.
9. For greater comfort, self-adhesive padding
can be applied to the proximal and distal
borders after the immobilizer is molded.
Apply the padding first to the inner surface to
minimize wrinkles between the immobilizer
and the skin. Any wrinkles that form can be
cut away with a scissors.
