ROOF RACK BASE SYSTEM
These fitting instructions must be retained and followed each
time the roof rack is assembled.
Figure 1.
Remove cover plates provided on the vehicle
on the left and right-hand side. For this, turn
the locks 90 degrees anticlockwise and ease
out the cover.
Caution! Retain the cover plates, as they will
be needed again after the roof rack is disas-
sembled.

Before fitting the roof rack for the first time the
sealing compound in the area of the tapped
holes front and rear at the fastening points on
the roof must be removed.
Then unscrew the plastic plugs (cross-head).
Remove remains of sealing compound from
the tapped holes.
When fitting, screw in M6 bolts front and rear
(part N) to test seating (do not insert bolts at
an angle).
Caution! It must be possible to screw in the
bolts easily 6 turns by hand. If it is not, inspect
and clean threads.

Preassembling roof rack
Caution: The rubber pads are marked on their
underside as follows:
1 = front left
3 = rear left
Do up fixing screws (J) loosely.

Fit cover plates (H) supplied.
Figures 10.-16.
Clean the roof surfaces at the points where the
feet of the roof rack are supported.
Align roof rack and tighten fixing screws. Use
only the fastenings supplied.
For this, screw in the bolts (N) by hand. Do not
use tools! Before screwing in the bolts turn the
butterfly nuts in the direction of the bolt head.
Caution: the bolts must screw in at least 6
turns. (Figure 11, 13) If this is not possible, the
roof rack must not be used.
Now tighten the butterfly nuts to 2.5 Nm by
hand (Figure 12, 14)
Then, using an Allen key (M), tighten the fixing
screws (J) to 8 Nm.
Make sure that the roof rack is correctly fitted
and fastened firmly to the vehicle!

SAFETY HINTS:
Note permissible carrier load and permissible total weight of
the vehicle in accordance with the manufacturer's informati-
on (permissible rack load 75 kg, weight of roof rack approx.
4.5 kg). The maximum rack load is made up of the weight of
the roof rack, the accessories and the load.

Mount and lock cover caps.
Demounting:
Open and remove cover caps.
Undo and remove of the roof rack feet fixing
screws front and rear.
Remove roof rack front and rear.
Insert cover plates front and rear and secure
by turning the locks clockwise.
After driving a short distance and then at suitable inter-
vals of time, according to the road surface, (after each
fitting, after approx. 50 km and then every 1000 km at
the latest) the screw connections must be tightened to
the specified torque and the roof rack seating and
fastenings and the load inspected).
Adapt driving to suit the changed road performance
Distribute load evenly over the loading surface and with
the centre of gravity as low as possible and secure it
against slipping.
For the safety of other road-users and to save energy,
the cross-carrier should be removed when not needed.
