Safety instructions for the hedge
trimmer
Before cutting, check the hedges and bushes
for concealed objects – e.g. wires, wire fenc-
es, electrical cables, garden equipment, bot-
tles – and remove them.
Move and transport the attachment so that
persons and animals cannot touch the cutting
blade. Before transport, push the protective
cover over the cutting blade.
During the work, do not hold the branches to
be cut off.
Before removing jammed branches, switch
off the attachment and wait until the cutting
blade has come to a standstill.
Do not use the hedge trimmer for picking up
or shovelling away pieces of wood or other
objects.
Switch off the basis appliance and push the
protective cover over the cutting blade for:
Inspection, adjusting and cleaning work
Working on the cutting blade
Leaving the attachment
Transport
Storage
Maintenance and repair work
Danger
Maintain a minimum distance of 15 m to
overhead electrical lines.

4 ASSEMBLY

WARNING! Danger if assembly is not
carried out completely! Operation of an incom-
pletely assembled appliance can result in serious
injury.
Operate the device only when it is fully as-
sembled!
Before switching on, check that all safety and
protective devices are in place and function-
ing correctly!

Engine unit

4.1.1

Installing the handle (07)

1. Place the lower part of handle (07/1) onto the
rubber sleeve on the stem tube of the engine
unit.
2. Place handle (07/1) onto the lower part of
handle (07/2) and fasten the two parts to-
gether with the screws.

4.1.2

Installing the split shaft (09,10)

The attachments are attached using the split
shaft.
1. Unscrew (09/a) locknut (09/1) and pull split
pin (09/2) out slightly (09/b).
2. Push split shaft (10/1) completely into split
shaft attachment (10/2).
3. Insert split pin (09/2) and fix (09/c) split shaft
(10/1) with locknut (09/1).

Removing the split shaft (09,10)

1. Unscrew (09/a) locknut (09/1) and pull split
pin (09/2) out slightly (09/b).
2. Pull (10/b) split shaft (10/1) out of split shaft
attachment (10/2).
ð The Multitool BC 260 MT can be stored com-
pactly.

Installing the extension tube

NOTE Use the extension tube only with the
pole-mounted pruner and hedge trimmer attach-
ments.
1. Install and remove the extension tube (02) by
analogy with the installation/removal of the
split shaft see chapter 4.1.2 "Installing the
split shaft (09,10)", page 38.
4.1.5
Attaching the carrying strap to the
basic appliance
The carrying strap provided with your attachment
transfers the load of the attachment, extension
tube and basic appliance to your upper body.
1. Hang the carrying strap over your shoulder.
2. Hook the snap hook of the carrying strap into
the eye on the basic appliance.
3. Adjust the length of the carrying strap by
moving the buckle on the carrying strap so
that the whole appliance is comfortable to
carry.
4. Carry out a number of work movements with
the appliance switched off to test the length
of the carrying strap. Adjust the length of the
carrying strap if necessary.
Trimmer and brush cutter attachments
must move parallel to the ground.
