Placing in operation

About your WHP 265
Your WHP 265 comprises a cordless headset and an infra-red transmitter. Its range of
operation corresponds to the typical use of such products. See illustration (B) inside for its
range of operation and then follow the instructions in this leaflet. See also the connection
diagram on page 2.
Your headset is fully autonomous thanks to two AAA batteries that you need to install in
each earpiece of the headset. The foam rubber of each earpiece slides out to allow you to
do this.
Installing the transmitter
1 Place the transmitter (1) in proximity to the source (television, amplifier, etc.) taking care
to aim the LED diodes in the direction of the area where you will be listening and taking
care that there are no intervening obstacles (objects, people, animals, etc.).
2 Plug the AUDIO cable plug (5) into the headset/earphones output of the source.
3 Plug the AC-DC (3) plug into the DC IN of the transmitter (1) then plug the adaptor into
a 230 V, 50 Hz mains socket.
Putting the headset in service
1 Slide out the rubber foam from each earpiece sufficiently to install two AAA batteries,
taking care to place them pointing in the correct direction, so that the polarity is
respected. The direction is marked inside the compartments (+ and -). Refit the foam
rubber. Take care in fitting it (there are 2 hooks and 2 lugs). Do not force it, sliding into
place is possible without forcing.
2 Plug the CHG.OUT (4) cable from the transmitter (1) into the headseat (10) and place
the ON/OFF button on the headset (8) to OFF.
3 Turn on the transmitter (1) by placing the POWER button (2) to ON.
Charging the rechargeable batteries
The rechargeable batteries must be fully charged for 20 at 24 hours before use. While the
unit is being charged, the red indicator light is lit (11). After the unit has been charged for
the first time, it must be charged for approximately 12-14 hours.
Non-rechargeable batteries may be used in place of the rechargeable batteries. You must then
take care not to recharge the batteries accidentally as severe damage may result.
Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) rechargeable battery memory effect):
When a Nickel-Cadmium rechargeable battery is first used, it is important to fully charge it and
then allow it to discharge completely three times in order to ensure its maximum storage
capacity. You must avoid recharging this type of rechargeable battery if it is not fully discharged,
otherwise it will remember the range of charge between the "undischarged" capacity and its
maximum capacity. This would reduce the battery's storage rating for subsequent charges and
so reduce the length of time during which your headphones can be used before recharging is
necessary.
Natural discharge:
Because of their chemical design, all rechargeable batteries suffer from a natural discharge
phenomenon, meaning that they automatically lose their charge to varying degrees and so their
capacity drops when they are not used. The size of this loss varies according to the rechargeable
battery's type and its design, internal resistance and (particularly) the temperature. The higher
the temperature, the greater the natural discharge.
Warning! To avoid the risk of fire, explosion and injury, do not try to recharge non-rechargeable
batteries.
Respect the environment and the law. Before disposing of rechargeable batteries, ask
your distributor if they can be recycled and if he collects them.
