Fuel Filter Replacement
The fuel filter replacement should take place
every 500 hours of operation and/or annually.

Figure
4-7.
1. Turn fuel valve off.
2. Using a pliers, squeeze the clamp to slide
it back from the fuel valve. Remove hose
from fuel valve fitting.
3. Slide both clamps away from the fuel filter
fittings. Clamps can be reused.
4. Remove short hose from fuel filter. Then
remove the filter from the long hose.
5. Place new filter on long hose. The larger
end of the filter (with the red dot) must face
towards the fuel valve. Position the clamp
on filter fitting.
6. Place short hose on filter and the other
end on the fuel valve.
7. Place both clamps back onto the fittings of
the filter and fuel valve.

Inspect Muffler and Spark
Arrester
NOTE: It is a violation of California Public
Resource Code, Section 4442, to use or oper-
ate the engine on any forest-covered, brush-
covered, or grass-covered land unless the
exhaust system is equipped with a spark
arrester, as defined in Section 4442, main-
tained in effective working order. Other states
or federal jurisdictions may have similar laws.
Contact original equipment manufacturer,
retailer, or dealer to obtain a spark arrester
designed for exhaust system installed on this
engine.

NOTE: Use ONLY original equipment replace-
ment parts.
Inspect muffler for cracks, corrosion, or other
damage. Remove spark arrester, if equipped,
inspect for damage or carbon blockage.
Replace parts as required.
Inspect Spark Arrester Screen
Hot Surfaces. When operating machine, do not

touch hot surfaces. Keep machine away from
combustibles during use. Hot surfaces could
result in severe burns or fire.
1. Loosen clamp (A) and remove screw. See
Figure
2. Inspect screen (B) and replace if torn, per-
forated or otherwise damaged. If screen is
not damaged, clean with commercial sol-
vent.
3. Replace spark arrestor cone (C) and
screen (B). Secure with clamp and screw.

Valve Clearance
IMPORTANT NOTE: If uncomfortable about
performing this procedure, or the proper
tools are not available, take generator to
the nearest service center to have valve
clearance adjusted.
Check valve clearance after the first fifty-hours
of operation. Adjust as necessary.
