Before you begin the restoration process, do not forget to backup
your valuable files (documents, pictures ...) on removable disks,
such as diskettes or writable CDs.
This first part of the restoration process will take about half an hour. Please
do not remove the network boot diskette (if any) from the floppy disk drive
or the boot CD or Master CD (if any) from their drive. Do not shut your
system down! Depending on the restoration process you chose, you may be
asked during the process to insert the Master CD 2 into its drive. Please do
so and press the Enter key to continue.
A message will inform you once the restoration is finished. Before continu-
ing, you will first have to remove the diskette, the boot CD or the Master CD
(if applicable) from their respective drives. Then press the Enter key to restart
your system.
The system will be restarted and the Windows installation procedure will
start. Please be patient as this procedure may take as long as one hour to
complete. During this time, your system will reinstall all your original soft-
ware, but also your hardware configuration.
Once this is finished, you will have to perform the first start process, just like
the first time you switched on your computer, with three exceptions:
Windows may ask you to enter a product authentication number called a
Product Key. It can be found on the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity
sticker located on the bottom of your notebook.
For dual configurations, you do not have any more the choice between
Windows NT and Windows 2000. The operating system that has been re-
installed is the one you selected the first time you switched on your com-
puter.
You do not have to select your recovery process. The current one is defini-
tive.
For further details, please refer to the "Setting up your Notebook Compu-
ter" section in this guide.
