INFORMATION NOTICE FOR USE AND MAINTENANCE
Only close observance of the instructions laid out in this booklet can guarantee perfect service and safe use
of the apparatus. SPASCIANI SPA and its appointed Agents take no responsibility for damages which may
occur due to incorrect or inappropriate use of the apparatus, nor following maintenance carried out by un-
authorised people.
Breathing Apparatus must always be used by trained people under the supervision of personnel well aware
of the limits of application and of the laws in being.
The following information notice shall be read and understood before operating with the apparatus.
1.
INTRODUCTION
The manual refers to RC and RL apparatus of the series MK2, which are based upon the same design and
operating principles.
They mainly differ in the limits of application, the donning, the cylinder(s) size.
2.
FIELD OF APPLICATION - DEFINITION
2.1
RC
Spasciani respirators type RC are compressed air line breathing apparatus provided with demand valve and
full face mask. The compressed air in the RC respirators is supplied by a Mobile High Pressure Air Supply
System (MHPASS). The MK2 warning system at the mask, advises directly the users of the imminent
exhaustion of the air reserve.
The RC are designed for use in polluted areas for long duration maintenance works to chemical plants and
generally wherever there is or may be oxygen deficiency. These apparatuses are suitable for long duration
interventions or where the encumbrance of SCABA' s cylinder impedes the access or movement. They can
feed two men at a time up to 50 m from cylinders and allow entering awkward places.
The RC system can be backed up with the BUSS system to be able to work in particularly dangerous
surroundings. (Description par. 4.2)
2.2
RL
Spasciani respirators type RL are Compressed air line breathing apparatus provided with demand valve and
full face mask. The compressed air in the RL respirators is supplied by a Fixed High Pressure Air Supply
System FHPASS (e.g. cylinders pack or HP line) or by a fixed or mobile Medium pressure air supply
system (e.g. medium pressure line or compressor).
Spasciani RL respirators shall be fed from a breathable compressed air network through a reducer set at 5.5
Bar.When so connected the warning built into the Demand Valve, cannot activate and in case of failure of
the air supply the user is forced to remove the mask. However the RL system can be backed up with the
BUSS system to be able to work in particularly dangerous surroundings. (Description par. 4.2)
The RL b.a. are designed for use in polluted or oxygen deficient environments for maintenance works or
long lasting operations; they can be fed through a medium pressure hose up to 50 m long.
3.
MODULAR SYSTEM RC-RL
The RC respirator can feed directly one or two men depending on the auxiliary outfit chosen. In the RC
system the MK2 warning system at the mask directly warns the users of the imminent air exhaustion
avoiding the need of an external attendant. A special device, placed by the cylinder, repeats the warning to
catch the attention of an external operator.
RL respirator is a compressed air line breathing apparatus. It can be connected to a compressor or a cylinder
pack with an outlet pressure of 5.5 bar. If the air is delivered from a Medium Pressure compressor, the
audible warning device cannot operate. If the RL is fed by a cylinder pack and the reduction is done by the
RB reducer the exclusive Spasciani alarm system at the mask activates at the calibration values set.
Both systems can be backed up with BUSS system to be able to work in particularly dangerous
surroundings (par. 4.2)
Spasciani system is designed to be modular and it can be made of the following elements:
