INSTAllING YOUR REFRIGERATOR

Unpacking Your Refrigerator

1. R emove all packaging material. This includes the foam base and all adhesive tape holding the
refrigerator accessories inside and outside. Slide out and remove the plastic or foam guard used to
secure the compressor from shipping damage due to vibration and shock.
2. I nspect and remove any remaining packaging, tape or printed materials before powering on the
refrigerator.
3. Check to be sure you have all accessories and parts stated in the Parts and Features section.

Proper Air Circulation

• T o ensure your freezer works at the maximum efficiency it was designed for, you should install it in a
location where there is proper air circulation, plumbing and electrical connections.
• T he following are recommended clearances around the freezer:
Sides.................3/4"
Back..................2"
Top...................2"

Electrical Requirements

• M ake sure there is a suitable power outlet (115 volts, 15 amps outlet) with proper grounding to power
the refrigerator.
• A void the use of three-plug adapters or cutting off the third grounding prong in order to accommodate
a two-plug outlet. This is a dangerous practice since it provides no effective grounding for the freezer
and may result in shock hazard.
Installation
• Your refrigerator is designed for freestanding installation only. It should not be recessed or built-in.
• Place the refrigerator on a floor strong enough to support it fully loaded.
• W hen moving the refrigerator, never tilt it more than a 45-degree angle. This could damage the
compressor and the sealed system.
• I f the refrigerator has been tilted more than 45°, let it stand in an upright position for at least 24
hours prior to plugging it into the power source. This will allow the refrigerant to settle and reduce the
possibility of a malfunction in the cooling system.
• P lug the refrigerator into an exclusive, properly installed grounded wall outlet. Do not under any
circumstances cut or remove the third (grounding) prong from the power cord. Any questions
concerning power and/or grounding should be directed toward a certified electrician or an
authorized service center.
• A fter plugging the appliance into a wall outlet, allow the unit to cool down for 2-3 hours before
placing food into the refrigerator.

Installation limitations

• D o not install your refrigerator in any location that is not properly insulated or heated (e.g. garage,
etc.). Your refrigerator is not designed to operate in temperatures below 55° Fahrenheit. Extreme cold
ambient temperatures may cause the refrigerator to perform improperly.
• S elect a suitable location for the refrigerator on a hard, even surface away from direct sunlight or
heat sources (e.g. radiators, baseboard heaters, cooking appliances, etc.). Direct sunlight may affect
the coating and heat sources may increase electrical consumption. Any floor unevenness should be
corrected.
• A void locating the refrigerator in moist areas.

Use of an Extension Cord

• A void the use of an extension cord because of potential safety hazards under certain conditions. If it
is necessary to use an extension cord, use only a 3-wire extension cord that has a 3-blade grounding
plug and a 3-slot outlet that will accept the plug. The marked rating of the extension cord must be
equal to or greater than the electrical rating of the appliance.
