Micropulse Transducer - Rod Style
3
Installation (cont.)
Note the following when in-
stalling:
The installation surface of the
BTL housing must lie fully
against the mating surface. The
appropriate O-ring must seal the
bore hole perfectly, i.e. the
chamfer for the O-ring must be
finished according to ➥ ➥ ➥ ➥ ➥ Fig. 3-4.
Suitability of the installed O-ring
(Viton GFLT90) must be verified
for the specific application.
When tightening the transducer
do not exceed 50 Nm torque.
When installing transducers with
nominal lengths of greater than
500 mm in a horizontal orienta-
tion, it is advisable to support or
attach the rod at its end.
The bore diameter in the piston
must be at least 13 mm.
When installing in a hydraulic
cylinder outside of Zone 0 the
magnet ring must not rub against
the transducer rod. Protect the
end of the rod from wear.

3.2.1 Magnet ring, installation

Each transducer requires a mag-
net, which must be ordered sepa-
rately. ➥ ➥ ➥ ➥ ➥ Fig. 3-5. The magnet
travels in linear fashion along the
axis of motion. ➥ ➥ ➥ ➥ ➥ Fig. 3-1.
We recommend that magnet rings
be installed in or against non-mag-
netizable material. ➥ ➥ ➥ ➥ ➥ Fig. 3-3.

The BTL-P-1013-4R and
BTL-P-1012-4R are supplied with
an appropriate spacer made of
non-magnetizable material.

Installation requirements
of level sensing in Zone 0
(with float according to
Section 3.3.2)
We recommend that both the
transducer and the magnet ring/
float be installed in non-magnetiz-
able material. ➥ ➥ ➥ ➥ ➥ Fig. 3-3.
A current magnetic field at the
screwing-in thread, e.g. caused by
the welding joint at the screwed
flange should be prevented!
The transducer must be installed
such that only the rod portion ex-
tends into the hazardous area of
Zone 0, with the electronics head
remaining behind a divider wall in
the hazardous area of Zone 1.
The stop prevents the float from
entering the damping zone on the
lower end of the rod.
Note the following when install-
ing:
Only vertical mounting is permit-
ted! It must be done such that it is
not possible for the protective tube
to strike the container wall. Any
excursion of the protective tube to
the side, e.g. through flow-cur-
rents, must be prevented by suit-
able brackets.
If the rod section of the BTL is
located in Zone 0, you must pre-
vent static discharge from causing
a difference in potential between
parts of the system. The float is
therefore so constructed that when
installed correctly it will tip and
always make contact with the rod.
The installation must not defeat
this design feature.
To ensure safe isolation between
Zone 0 and Zone 1 the relevant
safety regulations for potentially
explosive atmospheres must be
observed!
When tightening the transducer do
not exceed 50 Nm torque.
Installation note:
The weld seam at the end of the
transducer rod must not be sub-
jected to mechanical stress! Insert
the cotter pin through the hole and
use pliers to hold against the lug.
Use a second pair of pliers to bend
the straight ends of the cotter pin
around the rod.
Cotter pin should be used only
once!
