Description
The Hygrovent Gold is a combined heat and moisture (HME) exchanger with a filter for bacteria and viruses that has a provision for adding extra heat and moisture. By
adding this close to the patient heat and moisture management is very efficient, also because of the combination with the HME. The Hygrovent Gold can, in consultation
with a doctor, replace other forms of active humidification. The device is intended for patients with a breathing volume of 200-1200ml and for patients undergoing artificial
respiration in the ICU and during anaesthesia. The device can only be used in combination with a HME Booster heating element.
Instructions for Use Hygrovent Gold
-
Plug the transformer into the mains.
-
Check the condition of the X-ring on the heating element.
-
Engage the heating element in the cavity on the Hygrovent Gold HME filter rotating it to ensure a firm fit. The light on the heater will come on as the magnetic
switch activates the heating device. During heating up of the heater the light will be yellow. Observe until the light turns green, indicating that the operating
temperature has been reached.
-
Connect the device to the Y-piece of the breathing circuit. Connect the catheter mount to the endotracheal tube.
-
Close the cap on the valved T-piece (Hygrovent Gold Comfort Plus Only).
-
Connect the (vented) spike to a water bag or bottle. Only use pure water (sterile or otherwise).
-
Open the clamp and let the system fill with water.
-
The device is now ready for use.
-
During normal use the device consumes 1 drop of water per minute (±20%). In case the consumption is 2 drops per minute or more please replace the device.
-
Do not use the filter for longer than 24 hours.
Nebulisation (Hygrovent Gold Comfort Plus Only)
-
Position the nebuliser port of the T-piece so that the capped port points downward.
-
Remove the cap and activate the valve by placing the nebuliser into the base of the tee adapter.
-
Once the procedure is complete, remove the nebuliser and close the cap.
Disconnection
-
Close the clamp to discontinue water flow.
-
Unscrew and remove the heating element to stop heating. Unplug the transformer from the mains.
Warnings
-
Check before use the state of the device visually.
-
The device should be replaced immediately if contaminated by secretions or haemoptysis: this can result in significantly increased resistance.
-
Do not use the device in combination with other active humidifiers.
-
Do not use the device in combination with explosive anaesthetic gases.
-
Do not moisten the device before use. This will occur by the system.
-
Do not use an infusion pump or a pressurized infuser for the water supply to the Hygrovent Gold.
-
Monitor the pressure drop across the device if it is being used in combination with medicine nebulisers.
-
Maintenance of normal breathing pressures is important. This will prevent any condensation from being forced through the filter.
-
Leakage around the endotracheal tube can cut down the effective humidification.
-
The device should not be used if its packaging has been damaged.
-
The device should only be used with patients requiring humidification.
-
Never let the system be in permanent contact with bare skin.
-
Never pull the cable.
-
The base of the heating element can be very hot.
-
Do not connect the water supply system to the CO
-
Do not reuse, reprocess or resterilise. Reuse, reprocessing or resterilisation may compromise the structural integrity of the device and/or lead to device failure
which, in turn, may result in patient injury, illness or death. Reuse, reprocessing or resterilisation may also create a risk of contamination of the device and/or cause
patient infection or cross-infection, including, but not limited to, the transmission of infectious disease(s) from one patient to another. Contamination of the device
may lead to injury, illness or death of the patient.
