The CA 1730 LASER rangefinder is a non-contact distance measurement
instrument that can also calculate areas and volumes. It works by emitting a
brief pulse that is reflected from the target and received by a photodetector.
The distance between the rangefinder and the target can be computed
from the elapsed time between the emission and reception of the signal.
