Maintenance
WARNING: Check the condition of the Hose, Housing and Connectors regularly for signs of
damage or soiling. If any defects are found DO NOT use and have any repairs carried out at an
authorised Silverline service centre. Only use genuine spare parts.
Adjusting the spring tension
WARNING: Take care when carrying out any adjustments to the spring tension to prevent
kickback or twisting.
To adjust the tension:
1. Ensure the Hose Reel Housing (12) is secure
2. Use a 10mm spanner (not supplied) to turn the Tensioning Axle (13) clockwise to remove the
spring load from the Spring Tension Safety Pin (15) (Fig. XIII)
3. Remove the Spring Tension Safety Pin
Note: The load of the spring is now on the spanner. DO NOT remove the spanner until adjustment
is complete and the Spring Tension Safety Pin has been reinserted; this will cause the internal reel
spring to uncoil and all tension will be lost.
4. Rotate the Axle using the spanner to adjust the tension (Fig. XIV),
a) Clockwise to increase the tension
b) Anti-clockwise to decrease the tension
Note: DO NOT rotate the Axle more than one full revolution without rechecking the tension.
5. When the desired tension is achieved, align the hole in the Axle with the Reel Housing and insert
the Spring Tension Safety Pin (Fig. XV)
6. The spanner can now safely be removed
7. Secure the Spring Tension Safety Pin in position by bending slightly at both ends
