an elbow of segments jointed to each other at an
angle, the system has to have pipe segment weld-
ing enabled in the configuration menu (refer to
Sect. 4.1.2). In that case, as part of the input or con-
firmation of the component parameters, the weld-
ing system prompts the user for the kind of joint-
ing operation at hand: straight or sergmented-bend
pipe joint or production of a tee or crosspiece ("X")
or Y branch-off. Select the appropriate kind of joint
in the displayed listing using the ñ and ò cursor
keys and confirm your selection by pressing the
START/SET key. If you select a welding type other
than a straight pipe joint, the system displays anoth-
er prompt for entering details on this non-straight
jointing operation and, possibly, the step in the pro-
tocol that the jointing in hand is going to represent.

joint cannot be guaranteed.
Contact the manufacturer of the welding sys-
tem before using it for a non-straight joint for
the first time. This kind of welding operation
absolutely requires a competent, prior brief-
ing. Approaching the manufacturer for this is
highly recommended.
After all traceability data enabled in the configuration menu
were entered, the parameters of the pipes to be welded
have to be entered. If pipe parameters of an earlier welding
are available and no code error was detected, all welding
parameters of the previous welding are proposed and can
be confirmed in one go (see Display 16).
From this display, it is possible to change the pipe parame-
ters by pressing the STOP/RESET key. Then the first thing is to
select the pipe material in a list; use the ñ and ò cursor keys
and confirm by pressing the START/SET key (see Display 14).
After that, the cursor keys allow entering the diameter and
the wall thickness, both confirmed by the START/SET key
(see Display 15). Instead of the wall thickness, you may want
to enter the Standard Dimension Ratio (SDR); then display
this input line instead of the wall thickness line by pressing
the ï and ð simultaneously and enter the SDR value. The
machine then displays the whole set of parameters as an
overview. In case there are errors, it is possible either to en-
