INSTALLATION
Physical Installation
Physical Installation
Risk of severe injury or death by electrical shock.
• Always disconnect the electrical power before touching the pump or discharge.
Risk of damage to pump or other equipment.
• Do not install the check valve in a vertical position, as solids may settle in the valve and prevent the valve from
opening on start-up. For best performance of the check valve when handling solids, install it in a horizontal posi-
tion or at an angle of no more than 45°.
• When a check valve is used, drill a relief hole (1/8" or 3/16" in diameter) in the discharge pipe. This hole should be
located below the floor line between the pump discharge and the check valve. Unless such a relief hole is pro-
vided, the pump could "air lock" and will not pump water even though it will run.
• Support pump and piping when assembling and when installed. Failure to do so may cause piping to break, pump
to fail, motor bearing failures, etc.
NOTE: To test the operation before installing, refer to
1. Place basin on a clean, level surface so the unit will be gravity-fed.
2. Install the pump in the center of the clean basin.
• Place as close as possible to a water source to minimize suction piping length.
• Provide adequate room for future servicing, protection from freezing temperatures, flooding, and
equipment drainage.
• Never place the pump directly on clay, earth, or gravel surfaces.
• Ensure sump is clean and free of nails, gravel, string, cloth, or other debris before installing.
IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to restrict the intake side of the pump.
3. Install 1-1/2 inch threaded pipe in the basin cover fitting for inlet piping.
• Use a P-trap and union near next to the basin.
• Use PTFE tape and hand-tighten plastic fittings.
IMPORTANT: Do not use piping smaller than the inlet.
4. Connect 1-1/2 inch threaded discharge piping, using pipe joint compound at all connections.
NOTE: The holes in the basin cover are interchangeable to be used for the discharge or vent.
• The discharge pipe should be as short as possible and contain as few elbows as possible.
• Piping should be the same diameter as the discharge port.
• Be sure discharge piping is sealed with PTFE tape and that lift height of pump is not exceeded.
• If reduced flow rates are required, place a valve on the discharge side of the pump.
5. Install a union in the discharge line just above the basin cover.
6. Install a swing check valve in the discharge line no more than 3 inch from the basin cover and union.
7. Connect 1-1/2 inch threaded pipe to the vent opening in the basin cover.
• Use pipe joint compound on threads and hand-tighten only on plastic fittings.
IMPORTANT: The basin must be vented in accordance with state and local codes. The vent is essential
for proper switch operation and must not be omitted or restricted.
8. Tape the pump cords to the discharge piping with electrical tape.
9. Refer to
"Electrical Connections" on page 5
4
"Operation Testing" on page
to connect the system.
