2) Lay the back assembly and the Back Stretcher (D) in its approximate position between the Left
Back Leg (E) and the Right Back Leg (F). Spread glue evenly in the two slotted holes in the sides of
each back leg and the facing round holes in the lower portion of the legs. See FIGURE 2. Attach the
back assembly and back stretcher to first one leg and then the other. Tap firmly in place. To hold the
back leg assembly together while the glue dries, use a piece of rope approximately five feet long.
Wrap the rope loosely around the back assembly near the lower back rail (protect the back legs with
cardboard or cloth) and tie the ends in a square knot. Loop the rope around a dowel or screwdriver
and twist until tight. Tie down as shown in FIGURE 2A. It is important that both backs are firmly and
completely seated in the back legs and the shoulders of the backs are in contact with the back legs.
Leave rope in place at least one hour.
Insert a #8 x 1¼" Pan Head Screw (O) through the holes in the outside edge of each back leg into
the top back and fasten securely. See FIGURE 2A.
